Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/1BPosition Projection

10/14/2015 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Brown continues to shine on the diamond. He remains positive and brings energy to his team. This 2-way player throws strikes on the mound and can swing the bat with power. As a RHP - he has an effective 3-pitch mix coming from a repeatable delivery. He stays directional and works downhill toward the dish. FB tops out at 82 mph while showing run which will get in on the RHH. Changeup has run and compliments his FB well. He pounds the zone with strikes and gives his defense a chance. Offensively, this lefty shows a balanced setup with patience. The ball jumps off of his barrel when centered as he drives the gaps. At 1B, Casey hustles to come and get the GB. He moves well around the bag and can adjust to inaccurate throws. Brown has a projectable build with a ton of upside. This 2017 grad is one to keep an eye on over the next couple of years.

01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament This RHP utilizes his tall 6'6"/225 frame to stay on top and drive downhill. Arm works smoothly as FB shows late sink while hitters have a tough time squaring it up. He works quickly toward the plate and doesn't let baserunners get settled. Offensively, Casey shows a balanced approach while working back into a strong loaded position with strong leverage. He likes the pitch on the inner 1/2 and pulls it with pop. At 1B, Brown moves well laterally and gathers well. He is a big target and can get to inaccurate throws. This 2017 grad has the tools the will provide success on the diamond.

12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City Casey worked out both on the mound and at 1st base during Pirate City. He increased his velocity to 82 MPH, showing good mechanics, a fluid arm action, and good extension through to his target. At 1st base, Casey has long limbs, he funnels the ball to his chest, and he throws with accuracy from a clean release. Offensively, Casey has a square set-up, good balance, and a direct barrel to the ball. He has good hand-eye coordination and he hustles down the line. In all - Brown showed to be a respectful player that has the ability to make adjustments.

11/17/2013 - College PREP - Middletown (Hartford), CT Casey is a skilled 2-way player as a RHP/1B. On the bump, he has a 3-pitch mix coming from a repeatable delivery. FB tops out at 80 mph and heavy action. He hides the ball well and shows some deception in his delivery. SL is best off-speed as it is a good out pitch. He remains compact, works in-line toward the dish and throws strikes with all of his pitches. Working on his delivery from the wind-up and improving his finish will both help for him to develop on the mound. At 1B, Casey works to get around the ground ball and into a square fielding position. He gathers well and has a clean exchange. Working from the ground-up will help to improve fielding abilities. As a hitter, this lefty shows an athletic approach with a solid base. He delivers the barrel to and through the zone showing signs of pop. More lower 1/2 drive will help to increase power at the plate. Casey is only a freshman and has a high ceiling on the mound.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
