11/01/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Tampa, FL Torres continues to make improvements to his game. At 1B, he has active prep footwork and comes to get the GB. He creates and good angle around the GB, funnels it with soft/sure hands and gathers well. Offensively, this lefty shows a square setup with centered balance. He tracks pitches into the zone waiting for his pitch. Barrel delivery is level as he drives the ball back up the middle of the field. Swinging on a shorter/more direct path with more bat speed will result in increased power. On the mound, Cayvian drives off the rubber downhill with a strong lower 1/2. He has smooth separation and his arm works freely. FB now tops out at 75 mph while showing some cut. Breaking ball has 2/8 shape while changeup shows tail and is thrown with FB arm speed. A 2018 grad - Torres has a solid toolset with still time to develop.

11/02/2014 - National Tryout - Tampa, FL Cayvian worked out both in the INF and on the mound during his last workout in Tampa. At 1B, Cayvian fields out front, his hands are sure, and he flashes a decent backhand. He moves with good body control to the ball, and throws accurately to his target. On the mound, Cayvian stands over the rubber well, separates on time, and he works in good tempo. Offensively, Cayvian tracks well, he has an open stance, and keeps a still head.

07/25/2014 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Cayvian is a talented two way player that plays 1B and also pitches. At 1B he has a quick first step, fields with sure hands, and works well around the bag using proper footwork. Offensively he has an athletic setup with good balance. He has quick bat speed and showed good power during BP and games. On the mound this lefty throws a fastball with good arm side run and sink that he keeps down in the zone. His curve has a late break in the zone and he can throw it in any count keeping hitters off balance. He repeats his delivery well and should continue to improve on the mound with more in game experience.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
