04/14/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Chad is a C prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. Behind the plate, Chad shows quick footwork and covers up well when blocking. He sits in an athletic stance and receives with a firm glove. He makes a clean exchange and keeps his throws consistent to the 2B bag. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He is fluid getting into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed, leading to consistent contact and gap to gap pop. Overall, Chad is a solid prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Chad is a lean and athletic 2021 catching prospect that has good energy on the field. Behind the dish, Chad starts in a relaxed primary and has an athletic secondary stance. He presents a low target and works behind the ball when receiving. When throwing, he creates momentum in his lower half and gains ground with his footwork. When blocking, he leads with his glove, creates a good angle over the ball, and is on time. At the plate, Chad starts in a squared stance and loads his hands back into the drive position. He creates backside drive with his lower half, keeps the barrel flat to the ball, and makes consistent contact. Chad was eager to learn and we hope to see his progress in the future.

10/03/2018 - Arizona Sophomore Fall Classic Chad is a coachable C prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Arizona Sophomore Fall Classic. Behind the plate, Chad shows active footwork and covers up well when blocking. He sits in an athletic stance and receives the ball with soft hands. He makes a clean exchange and shows a quick release on his throws to 2B, keeping them accurate with good carry through the bag. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an open stance and is smooth getting into his load. He hits from a strong front side and produces solid contact. With three more years to develop, Chad has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

04/15/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Chad continues to shine on the diamond. At the plate, he has improved his hitting / power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He says inside the ball, utilizing the middle of the field well through a line drive approach. Behind the plate, feet are active and he gains ground in working in line to his target. Pop times showed in the 2.33 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He shows a squared setup with a soft glove that sticks ball in the zone. Blocking skills are solid as he utilizes his body well in centering balls out front.

07/23/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Chad is a lean, athletic catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. Feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed in the 2.31 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he continues to increase foot quickness and builds more arm strength. Glove action is soft and sticks ball well through the receiving process. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to improve flexibility to improve grade. He is a leader behind the dish, communicating well. At the plate, he shows a balanced / athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, good instincts and plays with a lot of energy. With 4 years to further develop, Chad has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

07/10/2017 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Chad continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power shows best to the pull side. At the event, he was 3 for 7. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the low 2.30 range with accuracy on his throws. Feet are active working in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Glove action is soft as he sticks balls well in the zone through the receiving process. He uses his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get body down sooner. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. With 4 years to further develop, Chad has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
