Official Scouting Report

01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Chance again showed good skills behind the plate during the UA Preseason All-America. He has a long / lean body and is very projectable. Chance has very good hands and feet and a soft glove. His throws are online to the target, with plenty of life and carry. Chance is fundamentally sound behind the plate. Offensively, Chance has good balance and bat speed. He is a strong hitter with very good leverage. Chance has good core explosion and power in his bat. Less movements and more load should help offensive grades continue to improve.

06/28/2009 - Team One West 2009 Chance did a great job at the showcase, showing tremendously as a catcher and fairly well as a hitter. Chance was one of our top-throwing catchers, ranging his POP times from 1.81 seconds to 1.96 seconds. His quick feet and lightening transfer aids his release, but he also has a strong, accurate arm to add to his throwing abilities. Chance also did well receiving and blocking, as he is athletic to his knees, in all directions, and does a great job of anticipating balls in the dirt. As a hitter, he shows good bat-speed and loose levers to create good extension. He does drift a bit and shows a harder stride, causing his hands to be limited through the zone at times. With some offensive, mechanical work, Chance has the capabilities of taking his offensive game very high, matching his hitting skills with his defensive prowess.

05/30/2009 - College PREP - Kearns, UT Chance is a catcher with a strong, athletic looking body that is well suited for his position. He is a stud behind the plate with a ton of athletic ability. Foot speed is solid average and he would benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are quick and athletic in getting his body into a strong position to throw. Transfer / exchange are quick and efficient as he displays outstanding arm strength with life, carry, and accuracy on his throws. He will control the running game at the next level as indicated by his low outstanding pop time of 1.82 with a comfort zone up to 1.98. Receiving and blocking skills are well above average and will be plus tools at the next level. At the plate, Jones shows near pro abilities and power. Hands are quick and direct to the baseball, generating plus, plus bat speed. Swing plane is level as he stays on and through the baseball at contact. He creates backspin as the ball carries off his bat and will hit with power at the next level. Chance has plus abilities and may pass the collegiate level as pro scouts will dwell over his abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
