07/11/2016 - College PREP - Avon (Cleveland), OH Chance continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a tremendous future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an above average runner as indicated by his 7.28 60 time. In the OF, he utilizes his quick / athletic feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles. He reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground, displaying range. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 87 mph. Fastball shows good arm side run. Slider displays tight spin with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs at the next level. With 3 years to further develop, Chance has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities, possibly as a two-way guy.

07/06/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Cleveland, OH Chance continues to show a lot of improvements in his baseball abilities with the makings of a special type player. Foot speed improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Defensive abilities in the MIF are now solid, displaying fluid / smooth actions. Hands and feet work well together through the fielding process. He moves well laterally and displays a plus backhand. Glove action is soft / sure as he presents well out front. Arm strength is outstanding across the diamond as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, hitting grades are now solid with outstanding power potential. Hands are quick and he attacks the ball with his hands. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball exploding off the bat when centered, mainly to the pulls side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields. On the mound, fastball showed in the upper 70 range. Breaking ball displays late bite and sharp action, showing potential as a quality out pitch. He slows his arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Lomas will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities as he continues to improve.

12/20/2014 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 1 Chance is a coachable player who shows his love for the game. He has worked hard and progressed in several areas of his game since we last saw him. On the mound, this strike thrower works fluidly in-line toward the plate. Arm works loose/clean as he mixes his pitches well. He drives off the rubber and throws 'through to mitt' instead of 'to the mitt'. He attacks the zone and makes hitters work. At SS, Chance puts his athleticism on display. He moves well laterally with quick actions, making the plays. Exchange is clean and arm is strong as throw show carry across the diamond. Offensively, he shows a balanced approach with patience. Barrel delivery is quick with bat speed as he connects and drives to and through the zone with extension. Consistently being short and quick to the zone will help to improve his abilities with the bat. Chance is a gamer (2019 grad) who still has a ton of time to show what he can do on the diamond.

07/07/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Cleveland, OH Chance is a 2-way player as a RHP/SS. On the bump, this effective righty has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He maintains good arm speed and drives off the rubber with his lower 1/2. FB tops out at 78 mph as he fills up the zone and throws strikes. Breaking ball has tight spin with 11/5 shape and sharp break. At SS, Chance works quickly as he gets into an athletic fielding position. Ball is quick/clean from glove to hand as he fires throws with carry across the diamond. With the bat, this LHH shows an athletic approach with good balance. He drives his lower 1/2 which helps to generate pop off of the barrel. Overall abilities will improve with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
