08/26/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Lebanon (Nashville), TN Chance continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. At the plate, he shows an open / athletic setup and loads well. Hands are quick (81 mph exit) and work through an aggressive swing path, creating bat speed. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel accuracy is a plus and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Pop times showed in the 2.01 range with accuracy and on line carry through his target. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Glove action is soft / sure as he works around and sticks balls in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process and he is a wall behind the dish. Receiving / blocking skills show as outstanding tools that will play well at the next level.

01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Chance continues to show shine on the diamond. Behind the plate, pop times were in the 2.01 range with accuracy and on line carry on his throws. Feet are active, working in line to his target as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. He plays with a ton of energy and shows the ability to handle a pitching staff with his receiving / blocking skills. At the plate, he continues to shine. Hands are quick and work inside the baseball as he utilizes all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off the bat when centered with gap-to-gap pop. A projectable catcher - Chance has lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

08/20/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Lebanon (Nashville), TN Chance continues to show as a prospect on the diamond and he continues to improve his baseball tools. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, he has improved his power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, working to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. At SS, defensive abilities are now outstanding as he shows smooth / athletic actions. He displays proper footwork in attacking balls and playing through well. Hands are clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.03. Feet are active working in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Arm strength is outstanding (84 mph velocity) with accuracy and on line carry to his throws. Glove action is soft as he sticks balls well in the zone. He uses his body well through the blocking process but needs to get down sooner and is a wall behind the plate.

01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Chance continues to show improvements and a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are active as he gains ground and works through a clean / transfer exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.10. Throws display accuracy and on line carry through his target, displaying outstanding arm strength. Hands are soft as he lets the ball travel and tracks well, sticking in the zone. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process with tool improving as he creates better angles to deaden ball. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent hard contact through a line drive approach.

08/21/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Lebanon (Nashville), TN Chance continues to show improvements in his baseball tools with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.12. Feet work in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. In the MIF, defensive abilities are now well above average as he displays smooth, fluid actions. Feet are quick as he moves well laterally, displaying plus range in the MIF. He plays through balls and presents glove well out front. Hands / feet work well together and he shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turn of the double play. At the plate, he continues to shine, now displaying well above average hitting abilities with solid power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. We have seen Chance a few times and have been impressed with is progress each time. We think he will be a very special player at the collegiate level.

01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Chance is a hardworking, coachable player that showed well at the Preseason All American Rookie event. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.19 as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Feet are aggressive in working in line to his target through an athletic setup. He plays with a ton of energy and shows the ability to handle a pitching staff with his receiving / blocking skills. At the plate, he shows an athletic / balanced setup. Hands are quick and work inside the baseball as he utilizes all fields. Power will continue to improve as he loads more and transfer weight properly through his lower half. With 3 years to further develop, Chance has the makings of a special type player at the next level as he continues to progress.

08/16/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Lebanon (Nashville), TN Chance showed as a catcher and at SS for the first time at the event and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate, pop times were in the low 2.31 range with accuracy and carry on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At SS, he works to square balls up, displaying clean hands. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he attacks balls more and plays through while presenting hands more out front. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path as he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields.

07/25/2014 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Chance is a very talented catcher that also showcased on the mound. Behind the plate he receives with soft hands, shows he is agile when blocking, and he has quick feet. His exchange is quick and he makes accurate throws to 2nd base staying in line. His pop times are down to 2.30, which is excellent for a player not yet in high school. At the plate he has an open stance, good load, strong balance, and quick hands. He sees the ball deep and has a good up the middle approach. Chance can spray the ball to all fields and is an above average situational hitter. On the mound he works quick and has a repeatable delivery. He gets to a good balance point and finishes his pitches well. He pounds the zone with his fastball that has good arm side run and late sink in the zone. If he adds some secondary pitches, Chance could be a solid option on the mound. Chance's team won the tournament at the Pirate City World Series, and he was a major contributor along the way.

07/31/2013 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training at Vero Beach (Ages 12-14) Chance is a primary catcher who also pitches. He is very advanced for his age and current size. On the mound he shows a good 3 pitch mix. He gets to a good balance point and repeats his delivery. He has a clean arm action and pounds the zone. He gets good extension while working in line towards his target. He has a very good breaking pitch for his age. Some areas to work on are developing his change up, landing softer on his front leg, and lengthening his arm action a bit. Behind the plate he is a smart catcher who really excels. He has quick feet and blocks very well for his age. He shows a quick transfer and stays in line with his throws. At the plate he has an open stance with a good load, short stride, and solid balance. He uses his lower half well and has average bat speed. He was able to make solid contact during the games and spray the ball to all fields. Closing his stance a bit could help him to become a better hitter and he needs to work on always keeping his hands inside the ball. Overall, Chance is a very intelligent player who works hard to improve and shows respect to his coaches. He will be one to watch over the next few years.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
