01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Chance is a premium defender behind the plate making him a valuable commodity. His 1.84 time to 2B was impressive in the workout, and he used his quick release and strong arm (91 mph raw) to throw out a runner in game play as well. He's an advanced receiver and shows excellent athleticism (6.98 in the 60) on balls in the dirt. With a line drive stroke and good strike zone discipline, Chance had a good weekend at the plate too, getting on base in 5 of his 8 plate appearances.

10/10/2018 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Chance continues to show as a top prospect on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line to his target through a quick transfer / exchange. Pop times showed in the 2.00 with life, accuracy, and zip (87 mph velocity) through his target. Glove action is soft / quiet and he tracks balls well through the receiving process. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process in getting down quickly and utilizes his body well. Receiving / blocking tools show as outstanding tools that will make an immediate impact at the next level. He shows great leadership traits behind the dish and can handle a pitching staff. At the plate, he shows an open / athletic setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the baseball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Barrel accuracy is a plus and he makes consistent hard contact. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 77-82 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches, attacking hitters. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great attitude and is very coachable as he works hard to be the best player he can be.

01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Chance had a strong defensive showing at the UAAAPS Tournament showcasing his catch and throw skills throughout the weekend. HIs 90 mph arm strength translated to a 1.88 time to 2B in the workout and quick, accurate throws in game play. Chance received well staying quiet and using strong, sure hands to stick pitches. Rounding out his defense, he was very good on balls in the dirt both in the workout and games where he recovered quickly and made quality throws to bases. As a hitter, Chance used the entire field during a solid batting practice session showing a line drive stroke. He is a singles/doubles style hitter with good strike zone discipline who competed in each bat (single and 2 walks in games). Overall, Chance plays a premium position very well and will become even more valuable as his bat continues to have more impact.

11/05/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Plano (DFW), TX Chance is a big, strongly-built two-way player who stands out when he steps on the field. He is a stud behind the plate who controls the game with his receiving and game calling ability, while unleashing a cannon down to second to cut down base stealers. He has quick feet and moves well laterally to collapse quickly and block everything in the dirt. His hands are soft to receive and quick to transfer as he guns down base runners with sub-2 second pop times. (1.98 seconds). At the dish, he has quick hands that he keeps inside the ball to work on a direct path and use the whole fields. His lower half is strong to generate fast bat speed through the zone and he barrels the ball consistently to hit it hard. On the bump, he features a fastball up to 84mph to get swings and misses. His curveball has good tilt in the zone at 68mph and his changeup has late sink, and he uses his polished mix to carve up opposing lineups. Chance is a very exciting prospect who will earn the attention of many people at the next level.

06/16/2017 - USA Baseball 17U Championships Chance is a coachable player who worked hard on his skills during his time at he USA Baseball 17U Championships. Chance fields well both as a SS and a C. He shows efficient footwork and has a quick exchange to throw. He has a quick release on his throws which allows them to remain accurate and carry through his target. He centers the ball when blocking balls in the dirt and shows great catch and release skills getting the ball down to 2B. Pop times range from 1.95-2.10 seconds. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a short stride to the ball He gets back into his load well and finishes with a firm front side in his lower half. He takes a short swing with decent bat speed which leads to square contact. Overall, Chance is a solid prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

06/06/2017 - 2017 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National Texas Chance is a hard working athlete who continues to progress every time that we see him. Behind the dish, he sits in with quiet actions and good flexion. Transfer/exchange is quick/clean as he gets rid of the ball firing throws down to 2B on a line (pop times now at 1.90). Offensively, Chance shows a balanced/athletic setup with patience. He whips the barrel through a level path, engages his lower 1/2 and drives the ball back up the middle of the field. This 2019 grad has upside with the makings to a very solid catching prospect.

01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Chance has a shot to be a defensive specialist behind the plate who can also contribute on the offensive end, a rarity in the game. His is athletic in his setup with natural actions and quick feet to get down and block everything in the dirt. He works in line to the pitcher and receives with soft hands to present pitches in the zone, getting rid of the ball quickly on throws to second (1.99 second pop time). He is balanced at the dish with a middle/pull approach, showing enough rhythm to stay back and spray breaking balls the opposite way. His path is level to the ball to make consistent, line drive contact and hit the ball hard. Chance has a skill set that every coach wants on their team.

11/13/2016 - College PREP - Plano (DFW), TX Chance continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a tremendous future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an outstanding runner at 6.85. Behind the plate, feet are active as he gains ground and works through a clean / transfer exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 1.91 with accuracy and carry on his throws. Arm strength is tremendous as indicated by his top velocity of 87 mph. Receiving / blocking skills show as excellent tools that will play well at the next level. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process. He is a wall behind the dish and deadens all balls out front. In the MIF, he shows smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft /sure but will benefit by presenting more out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process. At the plate is where he has improved hitting, now showing well above average abilities. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path with late explosion. He has strength in his swing and good barrel accuracy with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered, displaying gap to gap pop. With 3 years to further develop, Chance has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

07/18/2016 - College PREP - Plano (DFW), TX Chance continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, he threw his lowest pop time to date at 1.99. Throws display accuracy and on line carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with outstanding arm strength. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick creating bat speed through a direct / level swing path. He has strength in his swing and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. On the mound, fastball shows in the mid-70 range with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound.

01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Chance is a very hard worker who has molded himself into a solid prospect. With the bat, this RHH has a balanced setup as he tracks pitches into the zone. He has fluid rhythm to load, getting good separation and jumping on pitches he likes. He barrels the ball up and hits line-drives consistently. Behind the plate, Roberts shows an advanced skill-set sitting in well with a solid base and presenting a low/soft target. He has good sway, gets around pitches and frames well. Throws dow to 2B are on the bag coming from a clean transfer/exchange. Chance is a talented/versatile player who has a very bright future in the game.

10/11/2015 - College PREP - Abilene, TX Chance continues to work hard and make great strides in his game. Behind the dish, he is quick around pitches in the dirt, centering pitches off of his chest. Release is quick as he gains ground toward his target (pop times now at 2.10). At SS, he moves well laterally and makes the backhand play smoothly. Exchange is clean with accurate throws to 1B. Offensively, Chance shows a square/athletic setup with good balance. He gets loaded, waits for his pitch and squares the ball up. A looser/more relaxed grip will result in increased bat speed and more power at the plate. Roberts is a talented young player who will make things happen over the next few years.

09/30/2015 - Arizona Freshman/Sophomore Fall Classic Chance showed only as a catcher at the event with a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are aggressive and active as he works in line to his target, through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Throws display accuracy with pop time continuing to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking tools show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he continues to shine showing improvements through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered as he works to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and a leader behind the dish.

07/24/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Roberts continues to show as a very coachable player that is willing to make adjustments with a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, he showed his best pop time to date at 2.35. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools as he continues to develop and get more reps. At the plate, hitting / power grades have improved through a level setup. He shows a squared setup with balance and tracks the ball well. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and he makes consistent contact as he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus as has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Chance has the makings of a special type player and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

04/12/2015 - National Tryout - Plano (DFW), TX Chance continues to shine on the diamond. This athletic, versatile player is sure handed defensively. Behind the dish, he sits in well with flexion and receives with soft hands. Exchange to quick/clean as he puts the ball accurately on the bag (pop times of 2.38). He puts his athleticism on display and moves well around pitches in the dirt. At SS, Chance shows quick/active footwork moving well laterally. He plays through the ball well and has a quick exchange to throw. With the bat, he shows a balanced approach with patience. He connects with the ball and drives it to all parts of the field. Chance is a very talented player who has a bright future ahead of him on the diamond.

07/25/2014 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Chance is a talented young catcher that also showcased on the mound. Behind the dish he receives with soft hands, moves well laterally, and is quick when blocking. At the plate he has a smooth load, strong balance, and takes a direct path to the ball. He lets the ball travel deep and drives the ball up the middle. On the mound Chance gets to a good balance point, has a fluid delivery, and pounds the zone with his fastball. His fastball has good arm side run and sink late in the zone making him an ideal ground ball pitcher.

04/13/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Plano (DFW), TX Chance is a R/R 2-way player as a C/SS. Behind the dish, he sits in well and tracks the ball into his mitt. He has quiet actions and shows decent flexion. At SS, Chance works into a square fielding position and stays down on the ball. He fields it cleanly and makes the plays. He shows quick hands and can turn the DP effectively. At the plate, this RH swinger displays a square setup with a controlled approach. He lets the ball travel into the zone and swings on a level path, squaring the ball up. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic Chance Roberts is game savvy, smart and decisive Catcher. Behind the Plate, Chance has good footwork and posture, receives well, and has a good arm. He understands how to call a game and makes good decisions in captaining the defense. He continues to improve his footwork during throwing motions and his ability to block the balls to either side. Offensively, Chance sees the ball at contact, tracks the ball well and uses his hips and hands together effectively. He will improve at the plate as he strengthens his base to avoid lunging and improves his timing and patience.

07/15/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Plano (DFW), TX Chance is a thin, athletic, 2-way player who catches and plays SS. Behind the plate, Chance has sure hands, quick / fluid footwork, and he fields the ball athletically. He gains ground, his chest is soft to block, and he throws with a short / loose arm to 2nd base. At SS, Chance has firm hands, he square up to the ball, and he throws with accuracy from a long arm action to his target. Offensively, Chance has a tall / square set-up, a short / square stride, and he tracks the ball well. He has average bat speed and gets good extension through the ball. Overall abilities can improve if work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
