Official Scouting Report

  • 1BPosition Projection

03/22/2015 - National Tryout - Brentwood (Long Island), NY Charles showed very well in his most recent outing, improving in almost every facet of his game. His raw velo bumped up to 70, foot speed increased, as well as defensive and offensive ratings. Defensively, Charles projects as a first basemen with good mobility around the bag and accurate throws on double play balls. At the plate, he hits from a somewhat closed stance, with active hands, and good timing. He works to all fields with good extension and a smooth bat path. On the mound, Charles throws from a 3/4 arm slot with decent arm action and the ability to keep the ball down. He showed a 3-pitch mix with a change up that drops off the table. Staying closed and working on backside finish will improve his pitching abilities.

01/16/2015 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Charles is a physical left-handed pitcher / first baseman that will graduate in 2018. At the plate, he showed a solid base and puts his lower half to good use. He shows good balance and barrel accuracy throughout his swing and with added upper body strength will hit with greater pop. On the mound, Charles works hard to get downhill on his pitches. He uses his lower half well to drive towards the plate and challenges hitters. Charles can benefit from increased arm speed and strength to help improve his velocity. At first base, Charles displays good footwork when fielding the ball and makes accurate throws. Improving his footwork around the bag and presenting his glove sooner will make Charles a more consistent fielder in the future.

07/07/2014 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition Charles is a great kid who showed good improvement at the Cape Cod event. At first base he has good size, decent hands and athleticism. Improvement can be made by getting himself in a better position before pitch, increasing lateral quickness and breaking down sooner with glove out front. On the mound Charles displayed good balance, arm action and smooth tempo. He can improve by staying in-line to target, getting his chest out over front leg and continuing to strengthen his arm. At the plate Charles is direct to the ball, uses all fields and has good power. He needs to stay in-line, get started sooner and finish with the lower half.

02/16/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Brentwood (Long Island), NY Charles is a big, solid, 2-way player who currently projects best on the mound. He has a long arm action, simple mechanics, and he gathers over the rubber well. Charles has on-time separation, he lands in a square position, and he competes in the zone with his pitches. At 1st base, Charles moves well laterally, he fields out front, and he throws with a fluid arm with accuracy to his target. At the plate, Charles has a square set-up, a level swing, and an activated load. He has good hand-eye coordination, he swings in good rhythm, and he makes consistent contact. Overall abilities can improve if Charles can work on the following.

Pitching
1. Finish pitches
2. More extension
3. Lengthen stride
Infield
1. Sure up glove
2. Throwing accuracy
3. Play more through ball
Offense
1. More front side
2. Avoid spinning off
3. More lower 1/2

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
