10/07/2015 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Charles is a 2016, 1B with broad shoulders and tools that project at the next level. Defensively, he works around the bag well with good “pickability”. He makes the routine plays and turns it over well. Working to stay light on his feet will help to increase his lateral quickness. Offensively, he showed coaches his ability to make adjustments and work deep into the count. His pitch selection is outstanding as he doesn't swing at much out of the zone that he cannot handle. He has the ability to take the pitch on the outer 1/3 and drive it to the other way through 5-5 hole. Overall, Charles has a projectable build with a ton of upside on the diamond.

09/20/2015 - College PREP - Georgetown, TX Charles is a strong (6'1"/200) LHH 1B. Offensively, this lefty shows an athletic/balanced setup with a solid base. He gets back with strong bat leverage and whips the barrel on a level path. The ball explodes off of his barrel (exit velocity = 90 mph) as he uses the entire field. At 1B, Charles shows active footwork moving well around the GB. He picks out the hops, makes the plays with soft/sure hands and plays through it well. He has solid bag awareness and adjusts well to throws right and left. Charles has the tools that will make an impact on the diamond.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
