11/04/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Tampa, FL Charles is an athletic and talented 2019 SS prospect that continue to show progress each event. At SS, Charles is on time with his prep step, reads the ball off the bat, and presents a low/early glove. He has a quick release and throws from multiple arm angles. At the plate, Charles starts in an open stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and creates backside rotation with his lower half. He makes hard contact and drives the ball to all fields. Charles is a hard worker and we hope to see him continue his progress to the next level.

10/10/2018 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Charles continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. At the plate, power potential is now outstanding through an athletic, open setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a plus feel for the barrel and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. At SS, he continues to shine, displaying smooth / clean actions. He attacks ground balls and plays through with his body. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process and he shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 74-76 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great attitude and is very coachable as he works hard to be the best player he can be.

01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Charles continues to improve himself and solidify himself as an athletic 2019 Shortstop prospect. A 7.14s 60yd. dash time showed continued improvement with his foot speed and his ability on the field is trending further upward as well. Easy actions at SS, takes great angles, has plus range and showed the ability to control his body on difficult plays giving him a nice edge. Fields very cleanly and has smooth transitions to throw. At the plate, he uses the whole field and his quick, direct hands to put the ball in play hard and get on base. Had a .500 OBP at the event and showed his quickness swiping a bag on a tough pitcher catcher combination. Excited to see what is in store for Charles as he moves forward, a nice collegiate prospect.

09/13/2017 - Under Armour Fall Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Charles is a coachable SS/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Under Armour Fall Classic. In the field, Charles shows fluid footwork and is very agile ranging to the ball. He gets into an atheltic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He has a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws which allows them to be consistently on-line to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth getting into his load and comes through well with his lower half. He takes a direct with with fast bat speed which leads to consistent line drives and solid power. Overall, Charles is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

04/23/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Fayetteville, AR Charles showed at SS and on the mound for the first time at the event. He continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a well above average runner at 7.09. At SS, defensive abilities are outstanding as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he works to square balls up. Glove action is soft / sure and he presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally to both sides. At the plate, hitting abilities have improved through a crouched / athletic setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 75-77 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and shows a solid feel for pitch with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

03/20/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Oklahoma City, OK Charles continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a compact swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and works inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power is best shown to the pull side. In the OF, defensive grade has improved as well. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process as he works to get behind balls. In the IF, feet are active as he works to square balls up. He makes the routine plays, displaying clean hands. Presenting his glove more out in front will help to avoid getting the ‘in between' hop. Charles has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

11/05/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Charles is a versatile 2-way player graduating in 2019. Offensively, he hits from a closed stance with balance and athletic actions. He barrels up balls in the zone and constantly makes adjustments. He is aggressive on the bases and always looking to take extra bases. As he works to let the ball travel and loosens his grip, his hitting abilities will improve. Defensively, he makes the routine plays with aggressive feet and a quick 1st step. Long tossing and continuing to get reps at both positions will only enhance his feel on the field. Overall, Charles is an impactful player with a true passion for the game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
