01/14/2022 - 2022 Baseball Factory Rookie Pre-Season All-America Tournament Charlie is a 2025 1B/LHP out of Bethesda, MD who continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and did so at the Pre-Season All America Rookie Tournament. At 1B, defensive abilities are now solid as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. At the plate, hitting/power potential has improved through an open setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent hard contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 80 mph. Fastball shows a range of 74-80 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball was 67-72 mph that displayed 1/7 shape with late/sharp break. With 3 1/2 years to further develop, Charlie has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

08/10/2020 - National Evaluation and Tryout - Frederick, MD Charlie continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. He did show in the OF for the first time at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate is where he shows best through a tall, open setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Defensively at 1B, he shows active prep with fluid actions. He works around the GB and through it as he gains ground toward his target. Footwork around the bag is solid and he is a quality receiver. In the OF, he takes proper routes/angles in tracking down balls. He needs to work to get behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for Charlie as he enters his 8th grade year.

11/08/2019 - Baseball Factory's Fall Classic Tournament at Pirate City (Ages 12-14) Charlie continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, hitting/power potential has improved through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. At 1B, he displays smooth/fluid actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 57-60 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best he can be.

03/02/2019 - Mid Atlantic Regional Hitting, Pitching & Catching Combined Weekend (Ages 12-14) Charlie is a coachable 1B/LHP prospect who worked hard during the Accelerated Training Weekend. On the mound, Charlie gathers over the rubber and works with a clean arm. He stays inline towards the plate and finishes with a controlled landing. Charlie shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 66 mph with tailing action. Splitter sits from 50-51 mph. Changeup sits from 52-54 mph with tailing action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Separating his hands earlier in his motion can help Charlie improve as a pitcher. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a closed stance and gets into his load. He works to barrel up the baseball and makes solid contact. Charlie can improve as a pitcher by getting into his load sooner. With six more years to develop, Charlie has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
