09/04/2020 - HS All-Region Tournament Charlie continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting / power potential have improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 80-82 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for pitch with arm side run. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is outstanding as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

02/09/2020 - National Tryout Plus - Bartlett (Memphis), TN Charlie is a LHP/1B prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. On the mound, Charlie gathers over the rubber and works with a loose arm. He extends through his release and stays inline towards the plate, finishing square to his target. Charlie shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 73mph with sinking action. Breaking ball sits from 67-68mph with 1-7 break. Changeup sits from 66-67mph with sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Long tossing to build up his arm strength can help Charlie improve as a pitcher. In the field, Charlie shows efficient footwork and gets into a square position. He fields the ball out in front of his body and makes consistently on-line throws to his target. Increasing his lateral range can help Charlie improve defensively. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a short stride. He drives through well with his lower half and takes a short swing, producing solid contact to all fields. Working a smoother load into his swing can help Charlie improve as a hitter. Overall, Charlie is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

08/05/2019 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Pirate City (Ages 14-18) Charlie is an athletic and talented 2022 2-way prospect. At 1B, Charlie works off the bag properly and makes accurate throws around the diamond. He needs to continue to be on time with his prep step, presents a low/early glove, and work from the ground up. Playing through the ball and creates angles to the ball will improve his ability to make the routine play. At the plate, Charlie has loose hands and keeps the barrel flat to the ball. He makes consistent contact and gets the barrel inside the ball. Getting to balance and creating backside drive with his lower half will improve his ability drive the ball. Being more selective on balls in the strike zone and hunting the fastball will improve his approach. On the bump, Charlie works out the stretch, he separates on time, and has a clean arm action. He looks to pound down with his fastball and shows some feel for his changeup. Getting on top of his curveball will create more tilt on the pitch. Charlie will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
