Official Scouting Report

  • 4Class Rating
  • C/RHPPosition Projection

08/06/2023 - National Showcase - Council Bluffs (Omaha), IA Chase is a 2024 C/RHP prospect from Ceresco, NE with a lean, athletic frame at 5'11" 168 pounds. At catcher, he shows off quick, active feet and does a great job of getting in a low, squared fielding position and presenting a good target to his pitchers. His hands are soft and he keeps his thumb under the baseball when receiving. He has a quick release and makes accurate throws from a high 3/4 slot with a short, loose arm action. He does a nice job of tucking his chin and working around the baseball on balls in the dirt. He recorded a raw velo of 91 MPH. At the plate, he starts in a crouched, open stance and has a squared stride to the pitcher. He has a smooth rhythm in the box and shows off good feel for the barrel. His lower half leads and he shows off fast bat speed with an on-plane swing. He is aggressive to the baseball and works the ball to all fields, squaring the ball up consistently. On the mound, he shows off a quick arm and rhythm with his arm action. He does a nice job of gathering his balance over the rubber and getting on-time separation to the plate. He keeps his eyes on his target and stays squared to his target when driving to the plate. He does a nice job of riding his back leg and getting a proper stride length. His FB showed some run and sink and he ran it up to 84 MPH. His SL has nice spin and he did a good job of throwing his CH with FB arm speed. Overall, Chase is an exciting prospect that we expect to play at the next level!

08/13/2021 - Baseball Factory Summer Classic Chase continues to shine on the diamond. He did show as a catcher for the first time at the event. Behind the plate, feet are aggressive and active as he works in line to his target, through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times showed in the 2.19 range with accuracy / carry (83 mph velocity) on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He tracks the ball well and makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

01/15/2021 - Baseball Factory's Spring Training at Pirate City (HS) Chase continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a bright future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 6.85 runner. At SS, defensive abilities have improved as he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. At the event, he was 2 for 2 with a 2B and BB. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable. He is an athlete that plays with high energy.

12/27/2019 - Baseball Factory West Coast Winter Classic (Ages 12-14) Chase is an athletic and talented 2-way prospect that was eager to learn. At the hot corner, Chase is on time with his prep step, he presents a low/early glove, and has a good first step to the ball. He has good feeds on double plays and he makes accurate throws from multiple arm angles. He needs to continue to improve his angles to the ball and play through his backhand. At the plate, Chase starts in an open and tall stance. He has good rhythm, he attacks the inside part of the ball, and he hits off a firm front side. He needs to continue to stay back on the ball and create backside drive with his lower half. On the bump, Chase gathers over the rubber, he separates on time, and rides his back leg toward the plate. He throws his fastball for strikes but needs to repeat his down hill delivery. Chase will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

08/04/2019 - Accelerated Interactive Video Program - Council Bluffs (Omaha), IA Chase is an OF/3B prospect who will graduate in 2024. In the OF, Chase shows active footwork and covers ground well. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate and on-line to his target. At 3B, Chase shows active footwork and covers ground well. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate and on-line to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes his stride on time. He is smooth getting back into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed, leading to solid gap to gap pop. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

2. Stay directional to throw
3B
1. More athletic fielding position
2. Fielding with hands out in front
Hitting

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
