Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/1BPosition Projection

10/27/2013 - College PREP - Peachtree City (Atlanta), GA Burks only showed on the mound at the event where he has an upside. Delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work loose / clean to the plate through a high 3/4 arm slot. Fastball showed a range of 81-83 mph with late life as pitch explodes on hitters. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with tight spin and late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup showing a feel for with arm side run. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs at the next level. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches, locating to both sides of the plate. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

10/09/2013 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Burks continues to show as a RHP/1B, projecting best on the mound for the next level where he has a big upside but has a ton of abilities at 1B and the plate. Delivery is outstanding, allowing his arm action to work quick and free to the plate. Arm strength has improved as he topped out at 89 mph. Fastball showed a range of 84-89 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with tight spin and gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with tailing action. Off speed pitches are outstanding and will get outs at the next level. Command / control are outstanding as well as he throws strikes with all his pitches to both sides of the plate and changes speeds well. He had 4 quality innings at the event. At 1B, feet are active as he shows outstanding foot work around the bag and is a quality receiver. He displays soft / clean / sure hands and consistently shows the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. At the plate, Chase continues to shine through an open / crouched setup with balance. Hands are quick, generating outstanding bat speed through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, displaying power. He will hit and hit with power at the next level. At the event, he was 3 for 7 with a 2B, sac fly, and 3 BB as he displays a solid eye at the plate. Burks has an internal desire to succeed and works hard to be the best player he can be, displaying outstanding makeup.

07/12/2013 - Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Team One South Chase showed good offensive and defensive skills during his workout at Team One South. Offensively, Chase has good balance, nice barrel accuracy, and power to all fields. He hit at HR is live play and he gets down the line quickly. At 1st base, Chase presents his glove well, his hands are soft, and he fields out front. He moves well around the bag, and delivers the ball with accuracy to his target.

06/02/2013 - College PREP - Atlanta, GA Chase is a 1B with a solid body - 6'3"/215 lbs. The R/R defender is sure handed and has good range. He shows good footwork around the bag with an ability to pick it. He has a loose arm with present arm strength - 86 MPH. Perhaps where Chase truly excels is with the bat. He generates fast bat speed with good barrel awareness and pop. He gets his lower half through with good rhythm and extension. Burks fits the mold of a power hitting 1B that could hit in the middle of the order.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
