Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/SSPosition Projection

12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City Chase showed well as a LHH OF/SS in his latest Baseball Factory outing. Defensively, he covered ground with ease, communicated well and got great reads off the bat. He has fluid actions and throws with carry. Offensively, he showed good bat speed, a contact approach and some zone awareness. In all - Chase is a great kid that has a lot of athleticism and projects best in the OF.

08/04/2013 - College PREP - Council Bluffs (Omaha, NE), IA Chase is a solid, OF/SS that will graduate in 2015 with a strong lower half. Currently, he projects slightly better defensively in the OF for the next level. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 6.87 60 time. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles. He works to get behind balls and plays through well with momentum to his target and displays range in the OF. At SS, he utilizes his quick feet well in attacking ground balls and playing through well, displaying clean / quick hands. Throws are accurate, flashing carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Hazlewood shows a squared / athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path, creating extension. He shows a feel for barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. With 2 years to further develop, Chase has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
