01/17/2014 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Chase continues to show solid play in his offensive / defensive abilities. At 2B, foot speed is tremendous as indicated by his 6.66 60 time. Defensive grades are solid as he displays quick / athletic actions. He utilizes his quick feet well in taking proper angles in working around balls and plays through well. Lateral movement is a plus potential in the MIF. Throws display accuracy but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a balanced / athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path and show a feel for the barrel. Power numbers will continue to improve as he uses his lower half more.

10/09/2013 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Chase continues to show superior foot speed with his 6.6 60 time. He utilizes his quick feet well as he moves well side to side, displaying range in the MIF. Hands are soft / clean but needs to present more out front and attack ground balls more, playing through to continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate with carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting grades have improved through a crouched setup. Hands are loose and works through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, showing a feel for the barrel. Power numbers will increase as he learns to use his lower half more and add overall body strength. At the event, he was 4 for 10 with a 2B. Once on base, he utilizes his quick feet as a weapon as he will take extra bases. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

08/04/2013 - College PREP - Dublin (Columbus), OH Chase is a 5'7"/150 lbs 2B that runs extremely well - 6.43 sixty. At second, he has quick/soft hands, good pre-pitch footwork and is aggressive coming to get ground balls. He has an accurate arm to throw and is very agile. Promoting hands further in front and cleaning up his backhand mechanics will improve his defense. Offensively, he has a spray approach, uses his lower half efficiently and is balanced throughout the swing. He has a clean swing path and with developed strength will see greater power numbers. In all, Chase projects well as a middle infielder at the next level that can put the ball in play and use his speed to pressure the defense.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
