12/27/2018 - 2018 Inaugural West Coast Winter Classic - La Verne, CA Chase is an athletic and thin 2023 catching prospect will a high baseball IQ. Behind the dish, Chase presents a low target and tries to work behind the ball. He has a clean exchange and creates momentum in his lower half when throwing to the bases. He needs to continue to be in an athletic secondary stance, lead with his glove, and control balls in the dirt with his chest when blocking. At the plate, Chase starts in an open stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and creates backside drive with his lower half. He makes hard contact and looks to drive the ball gap to gap. Chase had several good hits in the games and showed the ability to jump on the fastball early in counts. He was eager to learn and will continue to improve with experience.

01/12/2018 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 12-14) Chase continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.62 with accuracy on his throws. Feet are active working in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. Glove action is soft as he sticks balls well in the zone. He uses his body well through the blocking process but needs to improve flexibility and work to get down sooner. At the plate, power potential have improved through a tall / athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel, flashing gap-to-gap pop. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

12/17/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Thousand Oaks, CA Chase is a lean, athletic, 2-way player who catches and pitches. Behind the plate, Chase has playable hands and feet, and he sits in squarely. He has soft hands, a clean exchange, and a long arm action with accuracy to 2nd base. On the mound, Chase stands over the rubber well, he has a loose arm action, and lands with good direction toward home. At the plate, Chase has a tall set-up, he stands in well balanced, and swings with simple mechanics. He makes square contact and uses some lower body. Chase can improve overall abilities with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
