Official Scouting Report

01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Brown connives to shine with his abilities on the diamond. On the mound, FB jumps out of his hand and cracks the mitt, now topping out at 86 mph. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape as he trusts to throw it in any count. He gets good glove side lead and works downhill toward the plate. He challenges hitters and pounds the zone. With the bat, Chris is aggressive and is looking to swing it. There's pop off of his barrel when he centers it, using the entire field. At 3B, he shows good lateral range working on the balls of his feet. Ball is quick from glove to hand with accurate throws across the diamond. This versatile athlete is exciting to watch and will make things happen on the diamond.

05/25/2014 - National Tryout - Murfreesboro (Nashville), TN Brown continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities still projecting slightly better on the mound. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date 84 mph. Fastball shows a range in 81 -84 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength gained and works to throw more strikes. At the plate, his hitting and power grades have improved, now showing well above average through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed to and through a level swing path as he shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. He shows a solid line drive approach to all fields. At 3B, he works to square balls up and has improved his foot speed as he ran his best 60 time to date. He moves well laterally and displays clean hands but needs to attack balls more and play through while presenting hands more out front to improve defensive grade.

11/07/2013 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Brown continued to show as RHP/3B at the event. Currently, he projects best on the mound for the next level but has improved his abilities at 3B. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable, allowing his arm action to work loose / free to the plate. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 82 mph. Fastball shows a range of 78-82 mph. Breaking ball displays a 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.60 runner. Defensive grade has improved as he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as he works to square ball up, displaying soft / sure hands. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to attack balls more and play through with his body. Throws are accurate as he gets rid of the baseball quickly but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting / power grade has improved through a squared / balanced setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. At the event, he was 2 for 5. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard as he plays with high energy, and is very coachable.

08/25/2013 - College PREP - Lebanon (Nashville), TN Chris is a RHP/3B who has a solid build. He projects best on the mound where he fills up the zone. He works to a tall balance point and drives off the mound toward the dish. FB tops out at 78 mph while CB shows 11/5 shape. He gets good extension on his follow through and finishes out over his front side. Defensively at 3B, he moves around the ground ball and works into a square fielding position. He has a clean exchange and makes accurate throws across the diamond. At the plate, Brown shows an open stance and balanced setup. He swings on a level path and hits line-drives, using his lower 1/2 well. Chris will have a bright future on the mound.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
