Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/1BPosition Projection

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Brown is a very talented 2-way prospect (RHP/1B) who showed well during his time in Arizona. On the mound, Chris works to a tall balance point driving downhill off of the rubber toward the dish. FB jumps out of his hand - now cracking the mitt at 89 mph. Curveball shows 12/6 shape with early action. Changeup shows to be best off-speed pitch as he has the ability to throw it for strikes and keep it down in the zone. Continuing to develop his command will help him to be that much more effective. At 1B - Chris has active prep footwork moving well for a big guy. He gathers smoothly and can go get throws in the dirt, picking them well. At the plate, this strong righty stands in well with a solid base. He takes an aggressive hack whipping the barrel through the zone with speed and connecting with pop. He squares the ball up and drives it to the gaps. Chris has a ton of upside with a bright future ahead of him in the game.

06/13/2015 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Chris Brown is a physical RHP/1B that does a lot of things well on the field. On the hill, he threw his FB from 76-79, spun an 11/5 CB from 68-70, and flashed a SPL from 65-68. He worked to trust his pitches, and will continue to gain trust with more concentrated bullpen sessions. Mechanically, he was controlled, and added more rhythm throughout his outings to become more consistent in the zone. Defensively at 1B, he worked efficiently with his feet to get the body in a position to field the ball and threw with a clean arm stroke and carry. Boosting flexibility to get the hands further in front will enable a more productive fielding position. Offensively, he generated good bat speed with strength through the zone and stayed in his legs well. Adding more fluidity with hands and hips together will allow for a more consistent bat path and hard contact. In all - Brown is a strong guy that has a chance to be a special player with increased reps and flexibility.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
