Official Scouting Report

  • 3BPosition Projection

07/20/2009 - College PREP - Carrollton (DFW), TX Chris is an athletic corner infielder. Biggest improvement since we last saw him is in his overall strength. In the infield, he shows good lateral movement, solid footwork in general, and a good feel with the glove. At the plate, Chris showed a lot of life in his barrel—especially to the pull side. Batspeed and balance are good, and he squared the ball up very consistently in this workout. Lower half rotates but can loosen and be more explosive. Would like to see him use the whole field.

07/14/2008 - College PREP - Cedar Hill (DFW), TX Chris continues to show steady improvement in his play. He now shows as a two way player on the mound and at 3B. He currently projects best at 3B where he shows solid average ability. His arm shows and plays better in the infield displaying carry and accuracy across the diamond. His feet are active in coming to get the baseball and play quicker then his 60 time indicates. Hitting grades have improved as well as his raw power, showing best to the pull side. Bat speed is solid and he does a nice job of keeping his hands inside the baseball utilizing at fields. He still has two years to continue to improve his tools and should catch the eyes of the college coaches in the process.

06/19/2008 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - 2008 Burdette lowered his 60-yard dash from 7.42 to 7.25. He also jumped his top end fastball from 77 to 82 mph, and showed a tight spinning breaking ball up to 70 mph. At the plate, he showed good bat speed and an aggressive approach. Can work to get his stride foot down sooner, and to work more down to contact with the barrel. Defensively, his feet worked well and he showed good body control. Can work to get his hands more out front to play the ball, and on improving his arm strength. Overall, a solid young player with some two-way potential.

02/10/2008 - College PREP - Houston, TX Chris is a small player with some athleticism. On the mound, shows a feel for the off speed pitches and has a nice directional delivery with good separation. Keeps eyes on target nicely. Needs to follow through more with the lower half in order to increase velocity potential and get body into better fielding position. Swing utilizes the lower half well with good extension. Will become a better hitter as he learns to hit the other way. Chris is still young though and has plenty of time to increase stock.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
