01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament This versatile & athletic 2-way player continues to shine. With the bat, Chris shows a balanced setup with fluid rhythm to load. Barrel delivery is quick with whip as he squares the ball up and drives it with pop. Behind the dish, Chris is quick with his lateral actions, centering pitches in the dirt off of his chest. Throws to 2B are on the bag coming from a quick transfer/exchange. On the mound, Buting pounds the zone with a 3-pitch mix. Arm works loose/quick as he finishes complete. He works the ball in and out and challenges hitters. Breaking ball and changeup both compliment FB well and show to be solid off-speed pitches. Chris is a gamer who can make things happen in a variety of ways on the diamond.

10/12/2016 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Chris is a talented C/RHP prospect who has good upside and graduates in 2017. Behind the plate, Chris plays with fluid footwork and agile actions. He has soft hands and a clean exchange. Chris plays athletically and does a nice job blocking the baseball. He has a loose arm action throwing from a high 3/4 slot with a quick release. His throws have carry and are on line. Offensively, Chris has an open stance with a short stride and his lower half leading the way. His swing path is on plane and he sprays the baseball to all fields. On the mound, Chris has a balanced, on time delivery throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot with great arm action that is loose and quick. He works downhill and extends through his release with the proper stride length. Chris pitches to both sides the plate. He features a fastball at 86-88 MPH with late run. Chris also throws a sharp curveball at 74-80 MPH and running change-up at 74-75 MPH. Overall, Chris has potential in multiple areas of the game to be an impactful player at the next level.

07/28/2016 - 2016 Under Armour Southwest Championships 17U Participant Average build, 3/4 arm slot, short arm action, FB: 84-86, touched 88 mph, arm side run, commands breaking pitch, good potential to keep velo up

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Chris is an athletic 2-way player who continues to shine. With the bat, this strong RHH steps into the box with a purpose. He takes an aggressive hack with bat speed whipping the barrel to and through the zone. He hits the ball where it's pitched and drives it on a line. Behind the plate, Chris sits in well with athletic actions as he presents a low/soft target. Footwork is quick as he replaces well, transfer is smooth with pop times at 1.96. On the mound, Buting maintains fluid rhythm, has smooth separation and drives downhill toward the plate. FB tops out at 84 mph while showing good run. He can hit his spots well throwing strikes. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with good action. Changeup shows good run - complimenting his CH well. He keeps the ball down in the zone, getting a ton of GB outs. Chris is a versatile athlete who has worked hard and molded himself into a solid prospect for the next level.

10/14/2015 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Chris is a hard worker who continues to make strides in his game. Behind the dish, he sits in well with a good base, athletic actions and flexion. He receives with a soft mitt yet firm wrist. Transfer/exchange is smooth as he fires strong/accurate throws on the bag - with a pop time as low as 1.96. Offensively, Chris has a patient approach, waiting for his pitch. He gets hand separation, swings on a level path and connects driving the middle of the field. Striding square to the target will help to handle the pitch on the outer 1/2. Buting has a projectable frame that will continue to fill out and gain strength. Unlocking his potential with the bat will help him to take the next step.

01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Buting is a defensive specialist who has a strong build. Behind the dish, he sits in well with flexion. He presents a low target and sticks pitches in the zone, framing well. Exchange is clean as pop times are now at 2.00. At the plate, Chris shows a balanced approach with a solid base. Swing is short/compact to and through the zone. He connects and drives the middle of the field. This 2017 grad has a solid skill-set that will only continue to improve over the next couple of years.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
