02/19/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Sugar Land (Houston), TX Chris is a versatile 2019 SS/C prospect with good athleticism on the field. He is a smooth defender at short with the range and arm strength to anchor the infield and make the tough plays. He is agile moving to both sides to field in a low, square position to the ball with soft hands to make plays cleanly. He plays through the ball, creating good throwing angles and showing quick hands to transfer and release to turn fast DP's and get rid of the ball to first. He looks to drive the ball to the middle of the field with a direct path, keeping his hands inside the ball. He is smooth to swing with good balance and has a quick bat to make consistent contact to all fields. Behind the dish, he shows an athletic setup with the agility to move laterally to block and receive. He works around the ball on the outer half to earn extra strikes for his pitcher. A faster exchange and release will lead to lower pop times moving forward. Chris is an interesting prospect we look forward to continue watching.

12/20/2016 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 Chris is an athletic SS who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.17. In the MIF, defensive abilities are solid, displaying smooth / clean actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through a low approach. Glove action is clean and he presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing the whole field. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard. With 3 years to further develop, Chris has potential with time and room to continue to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
