Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/OFPosition Projection

11/05/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Chris continues to show as a RHP/OF with steady play in his baseball tools. In the OF, he plays with a lot of energy and takes proper routes / angles in tracking down ball. He is aggressive and plays through ground balls well but needs to work to get behind fly balls more and improve foot quickness to improve defensive grade. At the plate, he showed a strong recognition of the strike zone. He is aggressive and makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to increase as he works to load more and utilize his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 64-68 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with big, gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program, throw more strikes, and develop off speed pitches. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker, is very coachable, and a very respectful young man.

08/09/2015 - College PREP - Burlington, VT Chris is an athletic 2-way player as a RHP/OF. On the mound, this righty has a 4-pitch repertoire coming from a high 3/4 arm slot and quick/free arm action. He works to a tall balance point, has smooth separation and stays directional toward the dish. FB ranges from 67-71 mph while showing some cut. Curveball has 11/5 shape with gradual action while slider is sharp with tight spin. Changeup is best off-speed pitch as he throws it with FB arm speed. He finishes complete an in an athletic fielding position. Gaining more arm strength through a long toss program is vital to helping him add velocity on his FB. In the OF, Fields is aggressive and quickly tracks down fly-balls to his right and left. He gathers well with a quick exchange to throw. Gaining more ground playing through the ball will help to improve skills in the OF. As a hitter, Chris displays a square setup with good balance. Rhythm is on-time as he swings on a level path and hits line-drives. Loosening his grip will allow for more bat whip which will result in increased pop off of his barrel. A 2017 grad - Chris has tools and is a few adjustments away from unlocking his potential.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
