Official Scouting Report

  • OFPosition Projection

01/16/2009 - Under Armour Pre-Season All America - 2009 Chris only showed in the OF at the event and did not run the 60 due to an injury. Feet do work well in his defensive play, as he works to get behind balls, playing through with his feet and hands. He is a very sound fundamental OF, showing a quick release. He does need to continue on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength and carry on throws. At the plate, he continues to show the ability to utilize the entire field by keeping hands inside the baseball. Graves has abilities with a lot of room to improve. His injured hamstring may have hindered him from showing his best abilities.

12/27/2007 - Christmas Camp and Tournament - 2007 In addition to improving his 60-yard dash time from 7.09 to 6.97, Chris once again showed good bat speed and loose hands at the plate. He can still work to get the most out of his lower half, and can work to create more rhythm in his launch. Overall outfield skills are solid, can refine routes on balls over his head. His arm works well and his throws were accurate. Overall, he played the game the right way. Was able to play to the level of his defensive tools, while he has room to develop more as a hitter in order to allow his offensive skills to make their way into the games. Also a good baserunner.

06/20/2007 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament Chris displayed his ability to play the infield, and continued to show his ability to hit line drives to all fields. Arm strength is area for improvement.

04/15/2007 - College PREP - Irvine, CA Graves is a strong kid that projects better in the outfield at this point. From the outfield, has a good first step with quick steps and a solid aggressive approach. Throws have carry but tends to throw uphill. Would like to see body follow throw in attempt to generate more momentum towards the throw. In the infield, gets around ball and into position well but plays too deep and needs to be a little more aggressive. At the plate, shows power with a direct line drive approach.

12/27/2006 - Christmas Camp and Tournament - 2006 Great work ethic and works hard. Work in the weight room this off season to improve strength. Work on footwork around the bag.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
