Official Scouting Report

  • C/RHPPosition Projection

01/13/2012 - 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Chris worked out both behind the plate and on the mound during the Pre-Season. Behind the plate, Chris showed soft hands, playable feet, and he blocks the ball well. He has a wide base, he takes good angles to the ball, and he sits in easy. Chris has a clean / quick exchange, and throws with a long / loose arm. On the mound, Chris works quickly, he works to his balance point well, and he keeps his eyes to his target. He keeps his shoulders level, he throws strikes, and he gets good extension on his pitches. Offensively, Chris has good balance, bat speed, and a solid swing path. He gets late explosion through the ball and he makes solid contact.

11/06/2011 - College PREP - Austin, TX Chris has made some improvements since he was last seen. Behind the plate, he displayed soft hands and his pop time has dropped to a 1.89. Chris' skills behind the plate should continue to develop as he learns to present a lower target for the pitcher. At the plate, he has quick strong hands and stays inside the ball well, but needs to create some better rhythm and fluidity in his swing. On the mound he gets good extension and works with a good tempo, but needs to finish each pitch out in front and create more drive with his lower half. As a graduating senior, Chris shows that he has the tools to continue and develop in preparation for the next level.

02/06/2011 - College PREP - Houston, TX Chris is a solidly built catcher/RHP that will graduate in 2012. Behind the plate, Chris has a quiet set-up, soft hands, and he tracks the ball well when receiving. He keeps the ball in front of his body when blocking, has a decent exchange, and sets his feet to his target well. Chris has a long arm action that needs to be shortened but his throws have life and accuracy to 2nd base. Catching abilities will get better when Chris widens his base, lightens his feet, and works on his balance when blocking. On the mound, Chris has a sound arm action, controlled balance point, and smooth separation. He works in good rhythm, has good direction towards home plate, and has decent glove side lead. Continuing to add velocity and sharpening his off-speed will help mound effectiveness improve. Offensively, Chris has an open stance, proper load, and short stride. He has quick hands which leads to decent bat speed, shows life in his barrel, and makes hard contact to all fields. A shorter swing path along with a more level swing should help hitting grades spike.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
