Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1BPosition Projection

10/04/2015 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Chris is a 2-way southpaw with a projectable frame. At 1B, he is a smooth fielder with accurate hands, quick transfer and an easy throw to the target. He makes the routine plays look easy and projects himself at the next level at this position. On the mound, he works from the hi 3/4 arm slot with some natural movement on his pitches. He keeps his eyes on the target with a simple, easy motion. At the plate, Chris continues to impress the scouts with quick hands, quiet eyes and plus pop in his bat. Stock on the diamond will only increase with the help of a long toss program and continued work on his skills.

01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Chris is a strong 1B/LHP that will graduate in 2017. In the infield he has quick feet, sure hands, and good body control. He works well around the bag showing proper footwork and he has a quick exchange. At the plate he has a smooth load, strong balance, and good rhythm. He has quick bat speed and swings a level bat consistently finding the barrel. On the mound Chris pounds the zone with his fastball and curve. He has good balance and a deceptive delivery. Fastball has a natural cut and his curve has a 2/8 shape with a sharp break. Overall, Chris showed a good mound presence and lots of upside. He has done very well this year in his events with us, and performs well against very solid competition.

10/01/2014 - Arizona Freshman/Sophomore Fall Classic Chris continues to play well with Baseball Factory. On the mound, he threw his fastball for strikes with arm side run, spun a 2/8 CB, and flashed some feel for a sinking CH. He commands his FB on both sides of the dish and his confidence shines in his mound presence. More connection with his lower half and arm action will increase velocity and decrease arm strain. Defensively at 1B, he moved around the bag well and showed an ability to pick the ball. He is astute at reading balls out of the hand of fellow infielders, and is patient to stretch. Offensively, he has strength at contact and repeats his swing. He keeps his head quiet and is accurate with the barrel. All in all - Chris continues to show added strength from event to event and has time to continue the growth.

09/28/2014 - College PREP - Scranton, PA Chris again showed improvement from previous events. His 60yd time improved and is now a 7.68. At 1B, he is smooth, works from left to right and can pick it. On the mound, he keeps his eyes on the target, leads with the glove side and uses a very repeatable set of mechanics. He is deceptive to the hitter giving him a significant advantage. Engaging the lower 1/2 and landing on the balls of his feet will improve his skills on the mound. At the plate, he throws his hands and has a smooth LH swing. His bat speed and barrel accuracy are one of his many strengths. Unleashing and driving his lower 1/2 and letting the ball travel with give Chris more pop and carry on his ball. He again shows improvement and will impress coaches in the future.

06/21/2014 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 In Omaha, Chris showed good offense, solid defense, and simple and effective mechanics on the mound. At 1B Chris has sure hands, proper footwork, and he moves well around the bag. He moves well to the ball, his arm stroke is clean, and he throws with good direction to his target. He has the physical size to play 1B as well. At the plate, his balance is good, his hands are quick, and Chris swings in good rhythm. He has good bat speed, solid barrel accuracy, and he extends through the ball well. On the mound, Chris was very effective in Omaha. He pitches to contact, he has repeatable mechanics, and he mixes his pitches well. Given his size and deceptiveness he projects very well in the future on the mound too. Overall, Chris is an exciting young versatile player with three years of high school remaining. He will be one to watch as he gets older.

02/16/2014 - National Tryout - Brentwood (Long Island), NY Chris showed increased athleticism and overall play ability in his most recent Baseball Factory outing. Posting a 7.71 sixty - his best time to date - and adding more consistency to his fielding at first base, make Chris a promising prospect that continues to improve from outing to outing. At first, he made all the plays and got himself in a good fielding position. Offensively, he was on-time and displayed good hands to get the barrel level through the zone. On the bump, the southpaw threw his fastball consistently for strikes and changed speeds with a SL and CH. His long arm action and fluidity allowed for repeatability. Adding a long toss program to increase velo will make him all the more effective. In all - we enjoy seeing the progress that Chris makes from event to event, it shows his passion and desire to work.

11/07/2013 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Chris showed extremely well at the dish in his latest Baseball Factory event. The lefty showed a level path and good timing - going 2 for 4 with 3 well hit balls. With added reps and confidence, Chris will become a solid LHH threat. At first, he fields out in front with soft hands and showed some decent footwork around the bag. Anticipating an error in throw and simply getting more reps are essential to Chris's progression. On the bump, he threw three pitches, topping out at 78 MPH and changing speeds with a BB and CH. In all - Chris projects best as a position player with a bat in his hand, locking down first base, defensively should be a priority.

07/26/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Chris is a tall 1B/LHP and he is a natural leader on field. In the infield he has sure hands, active footwork, playable range, and fields from an athletic position. He gets to a great fielding position (low and squares up), especially given his size. Quickening his footwork and working on his picks at first are a couple of areas for him to work on. At the plate he has an athletic setup, smooth load, short stride, and shows good balance. He uses his lower half well and has fast bat speed and great hands that allow him to stay inside the ball. He also has great timing and gets proper extension allowing him to stay thru the ball. Incorporating more lower half will help his hitting to improve. On the mound he has good arm action and a solid balance point. He finishes his pitches well and has sound mechanics for his age. His fastball has good arm side run and he commands this pitch well. His changeup is a developing pitch that will get better with more time. The changeup shows some sink, but he needs to throw more strikes with it. Getting more use out of his lower half and stepping more open will help him develop more on the mound. Chris will be an exciting player to watch as he enters high school this fall.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
