Official Scouting Report

  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

08/15/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Uniondale (Long Island), NY Chris continues to show as a prospect on the diamond with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.12 runner. At the plate, hitting / power potential is now outstanding through a squared setup. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. At 3B, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through on his release, staying inline towards the plate. He shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 69 mph. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight run but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. He can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength.

12/08/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Nyack (NYC), NY Chris showed nice upgrades during his last workout with The Factory. He increased radar velocity to 71 MPH, exit velocity to 82 MPH, and hitting and defensive numbers spiked. At 3rd, Chris has good pre-pitch actions, quick feet, and a soft glove. He fields out in front of his body, his exchange is quick and clean, and he throws with accuracy from a loose arm across the diamond. On the mound, Chris has good balance, a solid arm circle, and a still head on target. He has some glove side lead and competes in the zone. Offensively, Chris improved his power grade to 48. He is a strong hitter with fast bat speed and a rhythmic swing. He swings aggressively, makes square contact, and has power in his bat.

12/09/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Nyack (NYC), NY Chris worked out at 3B during his last workout with The Factory. Defensively, Chris has a tall/solid frame, he moves well to the ball, and fields in a square position. He plays through, fields low, and has a solid/consistent arm across the diamond. Offensively, Chris has a square set-up, good balance, and he uses his lower body. He swings on plane, makes consistent contact, and works the ball to the opposite field. Work on the following can help Chris improve. Defense 1. Hands 2. Fielding position 3. Footwork Offense 1. Rhythm 2. Bat speed 3. Rhythm

08/18/2018 - Interactive Video Program - West Harrison (NYC), NY Chris worked out on the mound and at 2nd base during his last workout with The Factory. On the mound, Chris has good balance, a loose/free arm action, and he gets solid extension on his pitches. He separates on time, has a controlled landing toward home, and competes in the zone. At 2nd base, Chris has an aggressive approach, active feet, and he throws with a short arm action to his target. At the plate, Chris has an aggressive swing, a square set-up, and good balance. He has fast bat speed, a short/direct barrel, and he makes hard/consistent contact. Chris can improve his game with work on the following.

Pitching
1. Off-speed
2. Arm strength
3. Work downhill
Infield
1. Hands
2. Range
3. Release
Offense
1. Loosen actions

02/19/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Brentwood (Long Island), NY Chris is a young, 2-way player with a thin frame. At 1st base, Chris has playable hands and feet, and he moves well to the ball. He works to keep it in front of his body, his exchange is clean, and he throws with a long arm slot to his target. On the mound, Chris has a long/loose arm action, good direction toward home, and he lands in a controlled position. He has some glove side lead and competes in the zone with his pitches. Offensively, Chris has a square set-up, a proper load, and a level swing. He has good balance, average bat speed, and he can spray the ball to all fields. Chris can get better with work on the following.

Defense
1. Attack aggressively
2. Fielding position
3. Play more through
Pitching
1. Separation
2. Release
3. More lower body
Offense
1. Loosen actions
2. Rhythm/timing
3. Lower body

12/09/2017 - Accelerated Hitting Weekend PHS- Columbia, MD Chris is a coachable player that worked hard to make several adjustments at the Hitting Accelerated Training event. At the plate, Chris starts in a tall and squared stance. He stays behind the ball and makes hard contact with the barrel. Continuing to attack the inside part of the ball will allow him to get consistent extension through contact. Using the lower half will allow his hands to work more freely and drive the ball gap to gap. Continuing to get the front foot down early will allow him to recognize pitches and be aggressive on the fastball. Chris will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

11/12/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Middletown (Hartford), CT Chris is a 1B/LHP who will graduate in 2024. Defensively at 1B, he hustles hard laterally and tries to get square when fielding GB's. He shows good bag awareness and tries to play through the ball towards his target. On the mound, this lefty keeps his eyes locked in and stays directional towards home plate. He delivers from a hi 3/4 arm slot and looks to command his pitches for strikes. As a hitter, Chris uses a middle of the field approach. He tracks pitches well into the zone and is a solid contact hitter. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Quick footwork
2. Stay low
3. Clean exchange to throw
Pitching
1. Lower 1/2 drive
2. Get to a balance point
3. Arm strength (long toss)
Offense
1. Develop a load
2. Improve bat speed
3. Level out swing path

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
