Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

07/15/2011 - Team One South 2011 Christian continues to show as a two-way player at SS and on the mound. He displayed similar abilities as we had previously seen in Jackson, MS. Foot are quick and active through the fielding process as he makes the plays. Hands are soft / sure but needs to be presented more down and out front. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but will benefit by getting on a long toss program to build more arm strength, plus raise velocities. Offensively, Dale shows a level swing path and makes consistent contact. Power is best to the pull side with grades improving as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 76-79 mph with arm side run and on a slight downhill plane. Changeup has improved showing arm side run but slows arm speed, tipping off pitch to hitters.

05/23/2010 - College PREP - New Orleans, LA Christian shows good progress in his game and still projects as a solid 2-way player. In the INF, Christian's hands work well and he keeps his glove in a good position. He makes consistent plays, has a quick release, and throws accurately across the diamond. Better pre-pitch work, added arm strength, and improved footwork around the bag will help defensive abilities continue to rise. On the mound, Christian increased his radar velocity from 77 to 83 MPH. He has good direction toward the plate, okay glove side lead, and he repeats his delivery well. Christian keeps his eyes to his target and he keeps consistent arm speed with his pitches. Pitching will get better by getting on top of the ball better and more use of his lower 1/2. At the plate, Christian is a patient hitter with a good set-up and quiet actions. He has decent barrel accuracy and a high finish. Hitting grades can improve with a proper load, better rhythm, and improved bat speed.

07/21/2009 - Cape Cod Training 2009 - Week 3 Dale is a young, 2013 graduate that shows as a two-way player on the mound and at SS with a solid average body with projection as he continues to physically mature and fill out. Foot speed is slightly above average and he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active but need to be more aggressive in coming to get and playing through ground balls with his feet and hands. Glove action is deep due to feet stopping in the fielding position. Hands are soft and clean and will show better as glove is presented more down and out front. Defensive abilities are average in the middle of the IF. Arm strength is average showing accuracy and he must get on a strict long toss program to aid in building more arm strength, raising velocities. At the plate, hitting abilities are average with near average power. Hands are quick and direct, flashing bat speed. Power numbers will increase as more overall body strength is developed. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 72-76 mph with tail. He throws a knuckle ball that has some dance. Christian is young with a lot of time to continue to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
