Official Scouting Report

  • RHP/SSPosition Projection

09/25/2016 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Christian is a wiry two-way prospect who graduates in 2019. As a RHP, Christian has a projectable frame with a balanced delivery throwing from a high 3/4 slot with a clean arm action. He does a nice job extending through his release with a controlled landing as he rotates towards home plate. Christian features a complete arsenal of pitches with his change-up with run as his best pitch. At SS, Christian has a good pre-pitch and plays with great focus. He is working to receive the ball with a softer glove. Christian throws across the diamond with a loose arm action from a 3/4 slot producing consistent throws. Offensively, Christian has a square setup with short stride and starts with a good load. He is working to develop more fluid timing for more consistent results. Overall, Christian is a developing prospect who is capable of becoming a player to watch.

03/13/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Indianapolis, IN Christian showed on the mound plus at SS for the first time at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. In the MIF, feet are active as he works around balls through a low approach. He shows off his athletic abilities on slow roller play. Presenting his glove more out in front will help to avoid getting the ‘in between' hop. At the plate, hands are aggressive and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball and uses the middle of the field well. Power will increase as he loads more and works more aggressively through the lower half. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 64-66 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with across break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound.

11/05/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Christian competed a the Baseball Factory National Select Training and Competition at Pirate City as a SS/RHP. Defensively, he made the routine plays and threw on-line to his targets. He showed decent body control, working around the baseball and worked to quicken his release - eliminating his glove pat - to throw. Offensively, he hit the ball where it was pitched and always ran a hard ninety. He was direct with his bat path and began to incorporate more lower half use in coordination with his hands, during drill work. On the hill, he threw a FB from 59-64, and spun a CB from 51-52. He kept his eyes on the target and worked fast pitch to pitch to repeat his delivery. Increased arm strength through a throwing program and adding more concentrated bullpen sessions, working on separation and arm action, will boost effectiveness. In all - Christian is a young guy that now has the tools necessary to take his game to the next level.

09/06/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Indianapolis, IN Christian is a R/R 2-way player as a SS/RHP who graduates in 2019. Defensively at SS, he shows active footwork and moves well around the GB. He gathers well and has a clean exchange to throw. With the bat, this righty shows a slightly open setup with good balance. He squares the ball up and drives the middle of the field. On the mound, Christian has a 3-pitch mix coming from a 3/4 arm slot and clean arm action. FB ranges from 62-63 mph while breaking ball has 9/3 shape with 'slider like' spin. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. More aggressiveness
2. Footwork/Agility
3. Play through ball
Offense
1. Rhythm to load
2. More bat speed
3. More lower 1/2 drive
Pitching
1. More glove-side lead
2. Lower 1/2 drive off of rubber
3. Arm strength (long toss)

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
