Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/OFPosition Projection

06/05/2016 - College PREP - Kansas City, KS Christian is projectable (6'0"/145) 2-way player as a RHP/OF. On the mound, this righty has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm stole. He has smooth separation, remains compact throughout his delivery and repeats well. FB tops out at 81 mph while showing slight cutting action. He commands it well and throws strikes. Breaking ball shows 11/5 shape with tight spin. Changeup has sink and will get GB outs. In the OF, he takes a quick first step and is aggressive to track down fly-bals. He works behind the ball and through it well, making accurate throws into his target. As a hitter - Christian shows a balanced setup with a solid base. He takes an aggressive hack, squares the ball up and drives it on a line. More lower 1/2 drive and more extension through contact will help to increase power. Watson is a solid all-around player who should find success as he approaches his senior year.

12/20/2015 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 Christian showed competed well and worked hard at the Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City. Defensively in the OF, he had a decent setup pre-pitch, and worked through the ball for momentum to throw on-line to his targets. He showed decent carry on his throws and with continued work on routes will elevate his ability. Offensively, he showed decent barrel accuracy and an aggressive approach. He rotated his core to help the hands get through the zone and worked on simplifying his approach and pre-pitch movements for added control and strength. On the mound, he threw his FB from 76-78, spun a 10/4 CB from 67-69, and showed a CH from 60-62. He repeated his actions, and had good in delivery rhythm with sound pitch to pitch tempo. More development of his off-speed and added extension out in front will allow for greater command and pitch ability. In all - Christian has a projectable frame to continue adding strength for increased development of his tools.

10/11/2015 - College PREP - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Christian is a RHP with a lean build. On the mound, this righty throws from the hi 3/4 slot with clean action. He commands his FB, works with energy / tempo, and has a good feel with runners on base. As he works to keep a quiet head and gain arm strength, his abilities will improve on the bump. At the plate, he hits from a square stance with rhythmic hands and direct hand path. He uses his hips to fire his hands through the ball and hit to all fields. In all, Christian shows some next level talents on the mound and has time on his side as he continues to develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
