Christopher is a 2017 C with a solid frame (5'10", 180lbs). Behind the plate, Christopher uses his feet efficiently and has good body control as he covers the ball while blocking balls in the dirt. His hands are soft and he uses good footwork on his throws to second. His throws are on-line and he showed good pop times as low as 2.18 seconds. At the plate, Christopher shows good balance in the box with a strong base. His hands are activated in his load which allows him to take a direct route to the ball as he extends through the zone. He has good bat speed which produced some pop to his pull side. Christopher can improve his hitting skills by staying inside the ball more in his swing. Overall, Christopher is a solid player with the potential to contribute at the next level.
12/06/2015 - College PREP - Nyack (NYC), NY
Chris continues to improve each time we see him and his established himself as a prospect at a premium position. He has an outstanding feel for receiving and blocking making him the kind of catcher that pitchers love to throw to. He has a strong lower half, good flexibility and strong/sure hands. His release and footwork on throws to 2B continue to improve, and improved arm strong will add the last piece to the defensive puzzle. At the plate, Chris has a direct short-to-long stroke that results in consistent line drive contact off the barrel. He has some strength that leads to flashes of pop, though his stroke is geared more to a gap/doubles style. He has natural rhythm and feel to hit in the box. Overall, this is a young player that merits a close follow.
09/12/2015 - Pitching & Catching Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 14-18)
Chris showed quick and efficient footwork when throwing to bases with excellent body control. He is athletic & mobile behind the dish - moving well laterally. He received pitches out in front with the target being shown on time. He showed soft/subtle and sure hands when receiving pitches. On his throws to bases he showed proper footwork but lacked two step aggressiveness in his momentum towards his target. His arm stroke a bit long at the moment which makes his throws short. Throwing a football to get spirals regularly would be a great way to work on proper catching arm action. High ceiling for this young catcher.
