Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

07/12/2012 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 2 Chris showed well at both 1st base and on the mound during his time in the Cape. Defensively, Chris has good hands, feel for his position, and he receives the ball well. He has good footwork for his size and throws with accuracy to his target. On the mound, Chris has a good approach, good front side lead, and a clean arm action. He keeps his head on target and finishes well. Offensively, Chris has quick hands, plus bat speed, and he has a good finish.

01/29/2012 - College PREP - Jackson, MS Chris is a young thick 1B/LHP that will graduate in 2014. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag as he is a quality receiver, displaying clean hands. He needs to work on attacking groundballs more, playing through while presenting hands more out front to improve defensive grades. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program plus raising velocities. At the plate, McCullough shows an open, balanced setup. He makes consistent contact through a long swing path. To improve hitting grades, he needs to square up his stance, stay closed, and work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 77-78 mph with late life and flashes cutting action. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break as he needs to work to stay on top of pitch. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement to improve pitch. With 2 years to further develop, Chris has abilities with time and room to continue to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
