Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • LHP/OFPosition Projection

04/10/2016 - College PREP - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Christopher continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a bright future on the diamond. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 85 mph. Fastball shows a range of 83-85 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with late break. He throws a cutter that shows tight spin and sliderish action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an outstanding runner at 6.99. In the OF, defensive abilities are outstanding, displaying smooth / fluid actions. He reads ball well off the bat and takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Feet are aggressive as he works behind balls and plays through well with momentum to his target. At the plate, he continues to show improvements, now displaying well above average hitting abilities with outstanding power potential. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through a direct / level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows plus barrel accuracy, displaying gap to gap pop. Christopher has an upside on the mound and the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches, possibly as a two-way guy.

12/14/2014 - College PREP - Monterey Park (Los Angeles), CA Christopher is a sophomore LHP/OF that has a very projectable frame at 6'2/165 lbs. Defensively, he worked his feet efficiently to get himself into a good fielding position. This enabled him to make plays with a sure glove. He threw with the proper footwork and stayed in-line to his target. Quickening his first step and eliminating drift to the ball will increase defensive ability. Offensively, he displayed good bat speed and barrel accuracy to drive the ball up the middle. He was direct with his hands at times, and used his lower half. Adding balance and strength in his hitting position will improve pop and consistency. On the hill, he topped out at 80 MPH with his cut fb, spun a 12/6 CB at 62-67, and threw a CH with run at 73-75. Mechanically, he worked downhill, kept his eyes on the target and repeated his delivery. A long toss program and added head control are crucial for velo and command. In all - Christopher's frame along is an intriguing factor, but his games fundamental strength makes him all the more appealing for the next level.

01/18/2013 - Arizona National Spring Training (12-14) Christopher continues to project well on the mound. His arm action is loose with a tall balance point, separation is on time with good rhythm and tempo. His landing is should with level shoulders but has the tendency to open his front side early creating him to cut across the ball. Work on finishing with fingers on top and not to the side of the ball. In the field, Christopher shows good range to the glove side and good carry on his throws. He can focus on positioning his hands further out in front as well as getting lower in his fielding position. Offensively, Chris has a strong swing with the ability to use the entire field staying inside the ball. His lower half gets through and he can still work on improving his overall rhythm and timing by staying loose. Christopher is a very respectable player with a great attitude and will see improvement by focusing on the areas above.

12/02/2012 - Interactive Video Program - Ontario, CA Chris is a lanky, left handed pitcher who also play 1st base. On the mound, Chris has a loose arm action, on-time separation, and he keeps his eyes on target. He has level shoulders, good direction toward home and he finishes completely. At 1st base, Chris has sure hands, he fields athletically, and he throws with consistency to his target. Offensively, Chris has a tall set-up, fast bat speed and he makes consistent contact. He is short to the ball, he hits line drives and he swings in good rhythm. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Pitching
1. More lower
2. Glove side lead
Defense
1. Play on balls of feet
2. Long toss
Offense
1. Rhythm / Timing
2. More lower 1/2

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
