02/05/2017 - College PREP - Mobile, AL CJ continues to show as a top prospect on the diamond and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Behind the plate, feet are active as he gains ground and works through a clean / transfer exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 1.83. Arm strength is at pro level with throws displaying life, accuracy and on line carry. He will control the running game with his feet and arm. Hands are soft as he lets the ball travel and tracks well, sticking in the zone. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process as he is a wall behind the dish. Receiving / blocking skills show as tremendous tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, hitting / power potential, now showing outstanding hitting abilities with pro level pop. Hands are quick (91 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has tremendous strength in his swing with the baseball coming off the bat a little differently. He will hit and hit with power to all fields. CJ has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches and pro scouts with his baseball abilities.

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament CJ continues to show improvements with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date at 7.12. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 1.91 as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Arm strength is outstanding and he will control the running game with his feet / arm. He plays with a ton of energy and shows the ability to handle a pitching staff with his receiving / blocking skills. At the plate, hands works inside the baseball as he utilizes all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, displaying gap to gap pop. CJ has a ton of potential and is a sure player to follow.

07/22/2015 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 16U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One CJ is a solid prospect who put his talents on display during his time at the UASW 16U Tournament. He is a coachable player who brings energy and a positive attitude to the field. Behind the dish, he sits in well with flexion and athletic actions and good sway. He communicates well and takes charge of the defense. Transfer/exchange is quick as he gains ground and fires strong throws (89 mph) on the bag every time (pop times of 1.92). He is a gamer and isn't afraid to show off his arm and throw behind runners. As a hitter, CJ has fluid rhythm to load and waits for his pitch. Quick hands whip the barrel through the zone with speed as he connects with pop. He extends well through contact and uses the entire field. Keckler is an athlete who has the versatility to play all over the diamond. This hard worker has a ton of upside and will be sure to get a ton of looks over the next couple of years.

01/25/2015 - College PREP - Jackson, MS CJ is a solid, athletic catcher that will graduate in 2017 with a ton of potential and promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is slightly above average as indicated by his 7.47 60 time. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times shows a range of 2.12-2.31 with accuracy and carry on his throws as he displays well above average arm strength. Receiving / blocking skills show as outstanding tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he continues to shine, displaying solid hitting / power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed to and through the point of contact, creating extension. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off the bat when centered, displaying gap to gap power. With 2 years to further to develop, CJ has the makings of a special type player and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
