10/28/2017 - 2017 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Futures West CJ is a well-rounded catching prospect with a solid skill set and the ability to use them in games. Defensively, he has the thick, sturdy frame necessary for a catcher to withstand the physicality of a season behind the plate. He threw to 2B as low as 1.89, combining good feet with a clean exchange/release and strong arm. He sits well behind the plate with the strong wrists necessary to receive well. As a hitter, CJ has a short, quick RH stroke that produces hard line drive contact. He stays balanced and seems to see the ball well out of the pitcher's hand - reacting well. He squared up quite a few balls in batting practice and followed it up by going 1-2 with a HBP in the game. Look for big things from CJ in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
