12/27/2019 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic (Ages 14-18) Clay is an athletic SS that will graduate in 2021. In the field Clay shows athletic movements with active and effective footwork. He takes a +1st step to the ball and fields out in front athletically with a confident glove. His exchanges are clean as he creates momentum towards his target and gets rid of the ball with a loose and quick arm action. He shows a +DP feed and delivers the ball across the diamond with accuracy and strength. At the plate, Clay sets up in a square and athletic stance with high hands. He gets a small load with a short stride to get the swing started getting his foot down on time. He works his lower half through and gets the barrel on plane early making consistent contact. He keeps a linedrive approach which allows him to use all fields. Clay shows mature approach to the game in the field and at the plate as well as being a heads up base runner. As Clay gets stronger, his game will continue to improve with his already strong baseball IQ. We look forward to seeing his progress.

08/25/2019 - College PREP - Lodi (Sacramento), CA Clay is an athletic SS who has a promising future on the diamond. At SS, defensive abilities are solid as he displays clean / athletic actions. Feet are active as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Glove actions is soft / sure and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy and on line carry (82 mph velocity) on his throws. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 2 years to further develop, Clay has a lot of potential and will get looks from the college coaches as he continues to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
