  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Clayton is a talented OF/RHP prospect who has an athletic build. In the field, Clayton has an athletic, relaxed ready position. He moves with effective footwork and works behind the baseball. Clayton presents his glove and fields the ball in an athletic position. He has a clean exchange leading into a loose arm action throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. Clayton plays with momentum through the baseball showing strong, accurate throws. Offensively, Clayton has an open setup with loose, comfortable hands. He has on-time rhythm with a small load and short, square stride as he uses his lower half throughout his swing. Clayton shows good coordination with his hips and hands. He is a line drive type hitter who looks to put the ball in play. On the mound, Clayton has a good presence and he repeats his delivery. He has a simple, small starter step and shows balance in his mechanics. He has fluid, on-time separation and throws from an over the top arm slot. Clayton has a loose, clean arm action and gets good extension. He stays in line with home plate and has the proper stride length. Clayton does a nice job finishing with his chest over his front knee. He commands his fastball at 80-82 MPH. Clayton also features a sharp breaking 12-6 curveball and developing changeup. Overall, Clayton is a versatile prospect who has a bright future on the diamond.

11/18/2018 - College PREP - Montgomery, AL Clayton is an athletic and talented 2020 2-way prospect. In the OF, Clayton is on time with his pre-step, he anticipates the ball off the bat, and has good routes to the ball. He has a clean exchange and creates momentum in his lower half when throwing to the plate. At the plate, Clayton starts in a tall stance, loads his hands back into the launch position, and creates backside rotation with his lower half. He attacks the inside part of the ball and drives the ball to all fields. On the bump, Clayton gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and has a loose arm action. He shows good tempo in the delivery and works north to south. He has good life on the fastball and throws his curveball for strikes. Clayton will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
