09/04/2020 - HS All-Region Tournament Clayton continues to shine on the diamond. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides through a closed setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. In the OF, he takes proper routes/angles in tracking down balls. He needs to work to get behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he utilizes his quick feet (7.00 60 time) well in covering ground. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program.

07/17/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Clayton continues to show steady progress on the diamond. At SS, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active but needs to attack balls more and play through with his body. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter but projects best as a RHH. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 64-66 mph. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with across break. He slows arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters. Stock on the mound will continue to develop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

11/19/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Germantown (Memphis), TN Clayton continues to work hard on his skills. At the plate, he displays an athletic stance with patience as he waits for a pitch he likes. Quick hands whip the barrel through a level path as he connects and hits line-drives. Creating more extension through contact will help to increase power at the plate. Defensively at SS, Dyer hustles into a square fielding position behind the GB. He tracks the ball into his mitt and gathers well. Getting into a lower fielding position while presenting his glove more out in front will help to improve skills at SS. Only a 2022 grad, Clayton still has a ton of time to develop his skills and get stronger.

08/03/2017 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training at Historic Dodgertown (Ages 12-14) Clayton is a hardworking SS/RHP prospect who has a versatile skill set and graduates in 2022. As a switch-handed hitter, Clayton has a tall setup with his weight on his heels. He takes an open stride as he partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. Clayton tracks the ball well and flashes fast bat speed. He is a contact type hitter who is looking to put the ball in play. In the field, Clayton plays with effective footwork and attacks the baseball with an aggressive approach. He fields the ball in a high position and his hands deep. Clayton has a slow exchange leading into a restricted arm action throwing from an over the top arm slot. On the mound, Clayton pitches with good tempo and a balanced delivery. He has a loose arm action and throws from a high 3/4 arm slot. Clayton stays square to home plate with a controlled landing. He commands his fastball and his changeup shows good depth. Overall, Clayton is a well-rounded prospect who plays the game hard and has potential to advance his skills to the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
