Official Scouting Report

  • 5Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

08/25/2019 - College PREP - Lodi (Sacramento), CA Clayton is a strong, solid, 2-way player who plays 3rd base and RHP. Defensively, Clayton has active feet, firm hands, and he covers ground well. He fields cleanly, makes plays, and throws with accuracy and momentum from a loose arm across the diamond. Defensive skills can get better by fielding further out in front and smoothing out his backhand. On the mound, Clayton has good balance over the rubber, he separates his hands on time, and he has a clean arm action. His delivery is compact, he lands with good direction toward home, and he finishes with his chest out over his front knee. A longer stride and continuing to add arm strength will only help mound effectiveness improve. At the plate, Clayton has a square/athletic set-up, fast bat speed, and a middle of the field approach. He hits line drives, swings on plane, and he uses his lower body. Improved timing and not lunging will help hitting grades progress.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
