10/13/2013 - College PREP - Abilene, TX Clayton is a tall, solid, and athletic C/LHP that will graduate in 2014. Currently, he project best as a catcher for the next level. At the plate is where he shows best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick / loose, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He is aggressive with strength in his swing and barrel accuracy as the baseball jumps off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grade to continue to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. Foot speed is average as indicated by his 7.50 60 time. Feet are active as he works in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange. Throws are accurate with pop times continuing to drop as he builds more arm strength and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 69-71 mph. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Clayton has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his abilities.
