Official Scouting Report

  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2019 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic (Ages 12-14) Clifton is a 2B/RHP prospect that attended Dodgertown. At 2B, Clifton works hard to get to a good fielding position. He shows good range getting to the ball. Working into a lower fielding position and getting the glove more out in front of his body will improve his consistency with fielding. He shows the ability to throw from multiple slots and delivers the ball with accuracy. At the plate, Clifton sets up in a square and athletic stance with loose hands as he starts his load. He gets his foot down on time as he starts his lower half and gets the barrel on plane. His bat speed is fast allowing him to hit to all fields. On the mound, Clifton shows a 3-pitch mix with a FB, CB, and CH. The FB shows some good AS action, the CB has 11-5 action with gradual break, and the CH sits 64-65 MPH. Pitching he starts square on the rubber with a simple starter step and gathers over the rubber well. He separates his hands on-time with a clean arm action creating good direction as he rotates to finish. Clifton will continue to improve with several years to develop, we look forward to seeing his progress.

12/01/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Pensacola, FL Clifton is a tall, athletic, 2-way player who plays SS and RHP. Defensively, Clifton has athletic actions and an aggressive approach to the ball. He covers ground, works around the ball, and has an accurate arm across the diamond. On the mound, Clifton has good balance and solid direction toward home plate. His FB touches 71 MPH and he throws from a deceptive arm slot. Offensively, Clifton has a tall/open stance, he loads his hands well, and he swings in good rhythm. He has fast bat speed and makes consistent contact gap to gap. Solid overall skills can continue to get better with work on the following.

Defense
1. Hands
2. Release
3. Fielding position
Pitching
1. More lower
2. Off-speed
Offense
1. Lower body

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
