10/12/2016 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Cobey is a strong/athletic 2nd baseman who will graduate in 2017. Defensively, Cobey did a good job of working with his hands/feet in synchronization, by fielding the ball low with his momentum moving towards 1st base, allowing him to make crisp/accurate throws. Working to improve his play on slow rollers and backhands will round at his game at the positon. Offensively, he showed a quick bat and a good approach to hitting, staying balanced and relaxed throughout his swing and spraying the ball to all fields. Cobey is a polished player on both sides of the ball and has the makeup to compete at the next level.

10/28/2015 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Cobey is a versatile athlete who can make things happen when he steps onto the field. He brings energy which radiates onto his teammates. Active pre-pitch footwork puts him in a good position to move quickly right or left. Hands are sure as he secures the ball and has a smooth transfer to throw. DP is quick with proper footwork and accurate throws to 1B. As a hitter - Cobey has fluid rhythm to load and waits for his pitch. Swing is level as he hits against a firm front side and works to engage his lower 1/2 - creating some pop off of his barrel when centered. At the event he collected 4 hits with 2 walks. Fujii is an athletic player who has a lot of upside. He should find success in this his junior year.

08/09/2015 - College PREP - Kapolei (Honolulu), HI Cobey continues to work hard and progress in his game. With the bat, this RH swinger shows a balanced/athletic setup with a solid base. Hands are quick whipping the barrel through a level path as he connects and hits line-drives consistently. He hits the ball where it's pitched with the ability to spray it to all parts of the field. Even more power potential is there with more lower 1/2 drive. At 2B, he shows quick/active footwork and moves well right to left around the GB. He is sure handed, gathers well and plays through the ball toward his target. A 2017 grad - Cobey has skills with a ton of upside.

07/14/2015 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 2 Cobey is an exciting MIF that will graduate in 2017. Defensively, he worked with a sure glove and efficient feet to make plays. He was fundamentally sound, and changed arm slots with ease. He had a good idea with double plays and had plus range. Offensively, his body was quiet and his hands were fast to get the barrel through the zone with hip and hand coordination. He was compact and had a middle/oppo approach with plus rhythm and feel to hit. His move was simple to get ready, offering an ability to hit as the pitching improves. All in all - Cobey is an intriguing young player that has fundamental ability to add strength to.

01/26/2014 - College PREP - Kapolei (Honolulu), HI Cobey is a lean, young 2B that will graduate in 2017. Defensive abilities are outstanding as he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he moves well laterally and works to square balls up, displaying soft / sure hands. He works around and plays through the ball well with his body. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he increases foot quickness. Throws are accurate as he gets rid of the baseball quickly but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an athletic / squared approach and he tracks the ball well. Hands are quick, working through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and makes consistent contact through a solid line drive approach with power numbers increasing as he learns to use his lower half more. With 3 years to further develop, Cobey has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
