Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

07/09/2011 - Team One West 2011 Codi continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities as he currently projects best at first base for the next level. His foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, but he needs to get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Defensive grades have improved as he displayed proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft, clean, and sure, as he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Offensively, he attacks balls with his hands and shows a feel for the barrel. On the mound, his fastball shows a range of 77-80 MPH with quality off speed pitches that will show well at the next level.

12/27/2010 - UA Recruiting Classic - 2010 Scanlon showed solid skills both on the mound and at 1st base during his time at the UA Recruiting Classic. On the mound, Codi works in a solid pace, with good tempo. He has a loose arm action, solid arm speed, and he is aggressive in the zone. Codi has a consistent release point, he competes in the zone, and he mixes his pitches well. Defensively, Codi has fluid actions, good footwork around the bag, and he can pick the ball out of the dirt. He fields out in front of his body, gathers himself well, and he turns a smooth / quick double play. Offensively, Codi has a level swing path, good bat speed, and he gets proper separation. He puts the ball in play, he has a good eye, and he uses his lower 1/2 well. He went 3 for 5 at the plate during tournament games. Codi is a young, polished player who can play at the next level. His leadership and passion for the game prove that he's got the right mental makeup.

11/07/2010 - College PREP - Salem, OR Codi is a young, big, thick, 2-way player that Pitches and plays 1st base. On the mound, Codi has great balance, solid mechanics, and he repeats his delivery well. He has a loose arm, good separation, and he finishes in a square, balanced position. Codi has solid off-speed pitches, and can further improve by slowing his tempo and continuing to add arm strength. At 1st base, Codi has playable hands and feet and he moves well around the bag. He fields in good rhythm, gets good glove extension, and squares his body to his target. Codi has a short / loose arm and throw accurate with average arm strength to his target. If Codi can improve his range, and add arm strength, defensive numbers will spike. At the plate, Codi is an aggressive hitter who swings in good rhythm. He has a proper load, good bat speed, and he can hit to all fields. Codi makes good use of his lower 1/2, and can get better with more direct hands to the ball.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
