Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/CPosition Projection

07/26/2010 - Team One Midwest 2010 Cody showed similar skills at Team One Midwest as he has done in previous workouts. He is a fluid fielder who takes good angles to the ball. He has soft / playable hands, and he fields the ball in good rhythm. Cody has a nice exchange and he throws accurately with carry across the diamond. Quicker feet will only help defensive grades get even better. At the plate, Cody has a strong set-up, good balance, and he sees the ball well. He has good bat speed, good extension, and he can work the ball gap to gap. Hitting can further improve if Cody can improve hitting the pitch on the inner 1/2 of the plate.

07/17/2010 - College PREP - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Cody participated in Team One West as a 3rd baseman and showed well. In the INF, Cody moves his feet to the ball well and he has good hands. He fields the ball cleanly from the right and gathers himself well before throwing across the diamond. Cody turns a nice double play and throws accurately across the diamond. Fielding can get better if he can get his glove down sooner and loosen his actions. Offensively, Cody has good balance and he gets good explosion through the ball. He gets on top of the ball and gets good backspin on the ball. Cody has a short stroke and makes good contact with the baseball. Hitting can get better if Cody can shift his weight better and improve his extension through the ball.

12/27/2008 - Under Armour Recruiting Classic 2008 Cody is a young two way player at 3B and as a catcher with a solid frame that does show future projection as it continues to physically mature. He has arm strength and has lowered his pop time from 2.25 to 2.20. His throws are accurate and display carry across the diamond. He does need to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength. Defensive abilities are slightly average and show a defensive toughness and situational understanding. At the plate, Bryan has slightly average ability with average power. He shows solid strike zone awareness and has some strength in his swing, displaying occasional gap power. He does have some mechanical flaws hindering him from reaching full potential but will improve quickly with some instruction and adjustments at the plate. With 2 years to further develop, Cody has abilities with time and room to continue to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
