Official Scouting Report

  • 3BPosition Projection

11/13/2011 - College PREP - Davie, FL Cody is strong multi-sport athlete. In the infield, he fields the ball out in front of his body and makes accurate throws across the diamond. His defensive abilities should continue to develop as he learns to create some pre-pitch rhythm and work through the play. At the plate, he has a good downhill path and shows the ability to spray the ball to all fields. His offensive tools will continue to improve as he learns to maintain his balance and stays through the zone. With one more season of high school baseball remaining, Cody has the opportunity to showcase his talents and continue to prepare for the next level.

08/02/2011 - Vero Beach Pro Select Training and Competition - 2011 Cody improved in a few different areas during his time at Vero Beach. His arm as well as his hitting and power grades all improved. Defensively, Cody has a quick and clean exchange and does well fielding the ball out in front. His throws to first are accurate but he need to use his feet more. At times Cody tends to present his glove down late and needs to get it down and out earlier. Offensively, Cartwright displays good balance and is an aggressive hitter. He has strong pull side power and can spray the ball at times. To improve, Cody needs to keep his front side closed as he tends to fly open. He also needs to try and get his top and lower half working together throughout the swing. With continued work Cody will improve his game.

01/23/2011 - College PREP - Delray Beach, FL Cody is a 3B with an average frame that shows projection as he continues to polish and firm up. Foot speed is average and he is aggressive as he attacks the baseball. He needs to present hands more down, out front. Arm strength is below average as he must get on a long toss program to aid in further developing more carry on throws. Offensively, Cartwright makes consistent contact. He has some mechanical flaws in his swing that are hindering him from reaching his full potential with grades improving with instruction and adjustments. Cody has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
