12/11/2016 - College PREP - Thousand Oaks, CA Cody is a lean built, broad shouldered C/2B prospect who has good potential. Behind the plate, Cody has an athletic low setup with a solid presentable target. He plays with effective footwork and agile actions. Cody receives the ball with soft hands and has a clean exchange leading into a short arm action throwing from an over the top arm slot. He has momentum through his throws and they are online with carry. As a 2B, Cody plays with effective footwork taking the correct angles to cover good ground. He presents his glove and fields the ball in low position with a soft funnel. Cody has a clean exchange leading into a short arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. His throws are accurate and online. Offensively, Cody has a tall stance with a firm front side. He has an on-time stride with smooth load and centered balance. Cody stays direct and compact with his swing and gets good rotation with his core. He has a line drive approach and produces consistent contact spraying the ball to all fields. Overall, Cody has a bright future as he continues to develop his skills on the field.

06/18/2016 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Cody is a hard worker who is very coachable. He always hustles and plays the game the right way. With the bat, this RHH has a balanced setup with simple/quiet actions. He tracks pitches into the zone and off of the barrel, squaring the ball up. Working to get loaded sooner will improve timing and increase hard contact consistency. Behind the dish, Cody sits in well with flexion/sway and presents a low/soft target. Exchange is clean as he works in-line toward 2B on his throws down. Continuing to develop his blocking technique will help him to take the next step as a catcher. Cody (2018 grad) has tools with upside as he continues build overall strength.

06/05/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Bakersfield, CA This athletic 2-way player continues to progress. With the bat, Cody stands in well with a solid base and rhythm to load. He tracks pitches in the zone and off of his barrel, engaging his lower 1/2 and driving the ball with some pop. Behind the plate, he has good pocket awareness and tracks pitches into his mitt. He deadens pitches in the dirt off of a soft chest, keeping the ball in front. At 2B - Cody moves well laterally and gets his mitt on almost anything hit his way. He has a quick exchange and can turn the DP efficiently. A 2018 grad - Cody has skills with upside on the diamond.

03/13/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Monterey Park (Los Angeles), CA Cody continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate, he threw his lowest pop time to date at 2.19 with accuracy / carry on his throws. He shows off his athletic abilities through his blocking / receiving skills. At 2B, feet are active as he works to square balls up and displays clean hands. Presenting his glove more out in front will help to avoid getting the ‘in between' hop. At the plate, hands are quick and work through a short / compact swing path. He works inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive type approach. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. Cody has abilities with time and room to continue to progress his game.

12/13/2015 - College PREP - Thousand Oaks, CA Cody is a solid, athletic C/2B with a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are active, working in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed in the 2.27 range with accuracy on his throws. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play at the next level. At 2B, hands / feet work well together, displaying solid fundamentals with a soft / sure glove. He moves well laterally, displaying range in the MIF. At the plate, hands are loose as he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive type approach. Power numbers will increase as he utilizes his lower half more aggressively. With 3 years to further develop, Cody has a lot of potential and will be a fun player to follow.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
