01/16/2009 - Under Armour Preseason All America - 2009 Cody only showed in the OF at the event but has really improved his abilities. Arm strength now shows at well above average displaying life, carry, and accuracy on his throws. He utilizes his feet and body well in staying behind and through on his throws. At the plate, abilities and power have also increased, now showing well above average. He has strength in swing, displaying a solid feel for the barrel with ball jumping off his bat when centered. He continues to show plus strength in his body and utilizes it well through his play. Hazel has the makings to be a solid everyday player at the collegiate level.

09/21/2008 - National Tryout - Azusa, CA Over the past 8 months Cody has continued to fill into his body, showing that he is dedicated to a strength program, which is helping him in most areas of the game. In the outfield, Cody continues to show an above average arm, displaying carry on his throws. He takes good routes to all types of balls, as he gets good reads off of the barrel. His fielding is smooth and he shows good body control with his movements. At the plate, Cody has maintained a nice, level swing. He shows a good line drive approach, with power to get balls into the gaps. An area of improvement will be for him to limit the tension in his shoulders, as he can fly open early, while over-swinging. Overall, Cody will continue to develop into a competitive college outfielder as he finds his balance between speed and strength. He should have a focus on maintaining the foot speed he once showed, however, he has the desire and hustle that coaches like to see.

06/29/2008 - College PREP - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Cody shows near above average ability at the plate. He displays solid bat speed into a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Swing path does get long at times due to his front side flying open. As he learns to stay closed it will enable him to keep his hands inside the baseball and utilize all fields. He has an idea at the plate as he went 3 for 4 at the event. Defensively, Hazel shows good routes and angles in tracking down balls in the outfield. His feet are aggressive and he plays through the baseball well with his feet and body, especially on ground balls. He does need to work to increase foot speed for the next level. Arm strength is solid but he would benefit from getting on a strict long toss program to further develop. Cody will draw some looks from college coaches with his abilities at the plate and in the outfield.

03/16/2008 - National Tryout - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Cody shows as a two-way player in the outfield and on the mound. He currently projects best in the outfield where he displays outstanding ability. His foot speed is solid average as indicated by his 7.09 60 time. He does a great job of working to get behind balls and playing through with his feet creating momentum to his target. His arm strength is above average showing life and carry into his target. At the plate, Cody shows well above average ability. He shows quick hands through a short swing path. He has some strength in his swing with the baseball jumping off when centered. Cody has the makings to be a solid defensive and offensive player at the college level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
