Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • C/RHPPosition Projection

07/21/2014 - College PREP - Austin, TX Cody continues to work hard on the diamond. Behind the dish, he shows quick footwork as he gains ground toward 2B (pop times of 2.20). He is quick around pitches in the dirt and centers them off of his chest. With the bat, this RHH shows good rhythm getting back into a loaded position. He hits the ball where it's pitched and uses the entire field. On the bump, he maintains smooth tempo as he works at his pace. Changeup is best pitch as it compliments FB well and shows hard sink. He gets good extension on his follow through and finishes complete. A young 2018 grad - Cody has a lot of time to progress in his game.

12/01/2013 - College PREP - Cedar Hill (DFW), TX Cody is a young, lean C/RHP that will graduate in 2018. Currently, he projects best behind the plate for the next level but has potential on the mound. Foot speed is average as indicated by his 7.59 60 time. Behind the plate, feet are quick / active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range of 2.21-2.35 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level as he has athletic abilities. At the plate, Vannoy shows an athletic setup with balance. Hands are quick and work through a direct swing path. He works to stay inside the ball and utilizes the middle of the field well. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to level out swing path. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 71-74 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to through more strikes. With 5 years to further develop, Cody has the makings of a special type player and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
