09/13/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Fresno, CA Colby is a tall, solid RHP who has an excellent future on the diamond. On the mound, he works to a controlled balance point, has smooth separation and fires from a clean/loose arm action. He gets strong glove-side lead and stays directional toward the dish. FB ranges from 80-82 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball shows 11/5 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Slider is harder with tight spin and short / sharp break. Off speed stuff show potential as outstanding pitches that will get outs. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to shine, displaying outstanding hitting abilities with excellent power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick (89 mph exit velocity) and work to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. With 2 years to further develop, Colby has a big upside and will get looks form the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
