  • C/OFPosition Projection

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Colby is a strong C/OF prospect who continued to showcase his skills at the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament. Behind the plate, Colby presents a good target to the pitcher and tracks the ball into his glove. He gets into his secondary stance on time and gains ground to throw. He makes a clean exchange and throws with a short arm, getting good carry through the 2B bag. Colby moves well to block and centers the ball in the middle of his body. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a square stride. He gets his hands activate on time in a simple load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with fast bat speed, leading to consistently loud contact and line drives. Overall, Colby is a talented prospect who should find success in this, his junior season.

12/27/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Colby continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a tremendous future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate, feet work in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed in the 2.14 range with accuracy and zip (83 mph velocity) on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss. He shows a solid setup and presents a low target. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centers balls well out front, and is a wall behind dish. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and has strength with gap-to-gap pop. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and a leader behind the plate.

09/30/2018 - College PREP - Jacksonville, FL Colby is an athletic C prospect who will graduate in 2021. Behind the plate, Colby shows proper footwork and covers up well when blocking. He sits in a low stance and tracks the ball into his glove. He makes a clean exchange to throw and keeps his throws accurate and on-line to 2B. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth getting into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He produces fast bat speed through the zone which leads to solid line drives. Overall, Colby is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
